Some of the best concerts I've seen in the last year or so have been club and casino shows (JSSB, April Wine, Honeymoon Suite, EM, Scrap Metal, etc.) Bon Jovi concert was great, but it doesn't compare to seeing your favorites in a smaller venue than a huge arena for a fraction of the price. Sooooo many great 70s/80s artists playing clubs/casinos out there right now. If you're only going to arena shows, your missing a sh*tload of great acts. :)

The one thing about Casino shows that I don't like is that they're usually REALLY scripted. ie. "play for 90 minutes tops, hits only, then let the people gamble". To me, there's a big difference between an older act and an OLDIES act. Casinos are ripe with the latter.

A few years ago, Toto played two nights at a Casino near me. I enjoyed the show, but they were too loud, too rude and pulled out too many obscure tunes for the casino happy crowd.

I caught them later at a big club in Minneapolis. Far fewer people than the Casinos, but what an awesome show. They played a lot longer and got into it a lot more too.

I'd prefer bands play baby arenas, small theatres and big clubs before the casinos themselves.

Then again, Casinos apparently pay REALLY well, which is why all the older acts are into them.

Toto is a band that picks one set list for a tour and sticks with it. The die-hard fans like me love it but the average concert goer in the US may not.

I'm still waiting for the gates-open-at-five tour with Jamison/Peterik, The Outfield, Night Ranger, Loverboy, Styx, and Journey.
But around town, it was well known...when they got home at night
Their fat and psychopathic wives
Would thrash them within inches of their lives!

I'm with you 100% on this one!!!!!

I would love to see either of these, but Triumph remains one of my favorite concert bands ever. Not sure they'd still have their light show, but it kicked and the power trio was just that...full of power. They rocked. I almost drove down to OK this summer, but I'm not a big fan of the "pasture stock" events that have popped up.

The thought of Santana and the possibility of getting Rolie signed up to play/sing with both gets me really fired up. I was just thinking that getting Gregg back at least for a few songs is what it would take to get me pumped for another Journey tour. Looks like he has quite a few dates booked for 2008 so that doesn't looks very promising.

JSS energized the band (and me as a fan), Arnel did the same, but after two shows with him I am ready for something new. Maybe its because I've seen them since 1980 and need the change of pace to keep things fresh.

TRIUMPH! That's the ticket.

Agreed! But are Triumph back together or not? Rik just played here a couple months ago, so he's still doing solo shows.

They are indeed back together. It all came about when they all attended the same funeral...Rik's brother passed away if I remember correctly, and his dying wish was that Rik put all the petty shit aside and give it one more go. Rik said the decision was easy after everyone came to the funeral. Cool story. They are supposed to be touring in 09.

Love Triumph! Especially Rik, so talented. Was fabulous to seem them get a Canadian Music Hall Of Fame award at the Junos back in April, right here! :) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0_0LY8kRDB4

They did some shows in Europe a few months back but the youtube vids are poor quality. Rik sounded good despite the rough audio.

Just throwing a few names out:

Night Ranger
Montrose
Y&T
Tesla
Greg Rollie Band
Joe Satriani

I like the Triumph idea
Tall Stories would be a very classy thing to do, but I think they will be looking for a "name" that will bring fans of other than the Journey family in.

In a co-headliner scenario:
Santana (co-headliner is the only way Carlos would do it, if he would at all)
Sammy Hagar (maybe we could get some old HSAS tunes jammed out)
Black Crowes (Different style of music, but I think it would work)

Yeah!! Another triple bill, this time with Gregg Rolie and Triumph. That would kick major ass. Plus, if Gregg would, he could sit in for a tune or two with Journey. I'd miss my daughters high school graduation to see that show. j/k

Without a new album to promote, The companion act has to be as good or better than Heart. That sets the bar pretty high in my book.

As much as I respect Luke's playing he is a non-draw. Night Ranger, Triumph and Journey is the ticket.

Triumph rocks, esp Rik, but they are as much a non-draw as Luke, don't you think?

Good question. I wasn't a big triumph fan until recently so I don't know how a big of a draw they were back in the day. I love their catalog, though. I would assume they would draw a few thousand because they haven't perfomed together in such a long time.

The reunion factor is definitely a possibility.

I like some of the other suggestions here too, like Tesla. Those guys rock live.

I may be biased, but I think Triumph would be a huge draw. It would be a hell of a show.

In 86/87, Triumph were selling out 20,000 seat arenas, so they were pretty big at that moment, but no one in this new generation has probably ever heard of them outside of Canada and Texas, where they have a huge fan base for some reason.

They were huge here back then, they toured their butts off. Triumph and April Wine were probably 2 bands I've seen the most amount of times. Actually JSSB is right up there now too.
