How many times are you guys going to post a link to the same performance? It's been posted about a dozen times already.

I love how all the naysayers come out of the woodwork at times like this. It is what it is. Better than an Augeri performance. Worse than Perry. Who'da thunk?

Oh. Well, shit, looks like I've been looking at this all wrong.

See, I thought that DSB was Journey's song -- you've heard of Journey, right? '80s rock band, sold 75 million albums, founded by two ex-Santana members (one of whom was a guitar prodigy)? Yeah, turns out this band has five members (though they've had a shitload of ex-members), four of whom play an instrument rather well (again, one of them is a prodigy). DSB sounds terribly familiar to this one song that was co-written by Steve Perry, but it had two other writers as well (two hacks by the name of Cain and Schon [one of them was the prodigy]).

Looks like the song at the Superbowl was another DSB where all of the writing, singing, and playing was done by Steve Perry and Friends.

My mistake.

Thanks for the revelation!

Right, because it's real polite to dismiss the contributions of four talented musicians and two co-writers and one replacement singer.

Edit: My avatar should be James Spader from Boston Legal fame. I can't find a good pic of him that fits the avatar requirements.

Glad someone can.

Seriously, though, it was a stupid and thoughtless comment and received a sarcastic response. Single standards only, please.

So then it should read as follows "after 54 seconds I quit listening... he is ruining Journey's song..bleh"
Cause Schon being known for the VOICE of Journey, he just be singing the shit out of it right, I mean it is his voice that makes the song.

I was sorely tempted to not even dignify this with a response for a few reasons, but I'll take the bait.

1.) It is Journey's song. Period. In fact, if you want to get technical, Perry is only 1/3 of the writing credit for the song. Ergo, Granny's comment that Arnel is "ruining SP's songs" is baseless because it isn't his song. You don't like it, take it up with Sony and every other fucking company that issues the song under the name JOURNEY.

2.) Journey isn't all about Neal, either.

3.) Vocals aren't exactly the means by which someone is entitled to possession of a song. Especially when "the Voice" isn't even there anymore.

I reiterate: it was a stupid comment and received a sarcastic response. If she thinks Arnel sucks, that's her opinion, but it is not Steve Perry's song and it is rude and pointless to dismiss the contributions of Neal and Jon (and Ross and Smith for that matter).

Who is this in response to? I realize you quoted me, but it really doesn't apply. I'm not an Arnel apologist; I was extremely critical of his performance today and (perhaps too harshly) pointed out that his "solo career" needs to play a distant second fiddle to his obligations to Journey, especially if that is the reason he was relatively sub-par. I don't give two shits about his performances outside of Journey, and I bet most of the American public doesn't. either. Ergo, his voice needs to be saved and prioritized for the band who handed him a career on a silver platter.

Likewise, I also said that Granny is entitled to loathe/detest/hate/dislike/whatever Arnel all she wants even though I don't. But it's not SP's song. It's Journey's.

Edit: sex, lies, and videotape was a great movie, Larry. And Spader's put on some serious lbs. here recently. But hot damn, the man's a great actor.

It wasn't a stupid comment it was her humble opinion just as you have stated yours. I didn't see her dismiss anyone's contributions.... She was comparing lead singers! She said he was ruining the song that we all know Perry sang better, that is why it is a classic :) Give me a break at no point in time in her ONE sentence did she mention anyone other that Arnel and SP. You are correct in the "Journey isn't about Neal either!" truer words have never been spoken! I think you just like being sarcastic..carry on!

He does ruin it..case closed.
