I've had this one a long while. It's a good song. It's called "We all want to be Loved" I think it was done around ROR time.

Yeah, THAT I can believe. Maybe they dragged that song out of mothballs when Jeremey was working with them, and they did it as a demo to see how it would sound. But that is BY NO MEANS Steve Perry.

Tune doesn't sound like it would come from the ROR sessions. Not deep or to use a thread's words, 'haunting' enough. It also doesn't sound like Perry during the second half of the song.

It was from the Frontiers era, and it was Steve Perry. Sorry to dissappoint, but it was NOT Jeremey. There were a few demos recorded at the time at Cain's house, and they were just done by Perry/Cain. I have another one or two around here somewhere. They were just rough writing demos.

Thanks Jim. People mistaking Perry for Jeremey is even more proof that Jeremey would have been a great choice for Journey.

It sure doesn't sound like Perry. Except the wooooo at the beginning. I figured it was Jeremey or maybe even Chalfant. The audio quality isn't that good though.

I thought it was him for like a minute or so. Then, I dunno, it went into a weird space and wandered for awhile, which is typical for some of Cain's stuff. Would love to hear a cleaned up version.

From another website.

"Jonathan Cain stopped by at Journey's Back Talk forum last night and answered questions from his fans including me :),first time I got lucky and had my question to Steve Augeri answered and now Cain had the will to hear what I had to say about some old songs that I want to be officially released.

Kaj: Back in the early 90s, you recorded 2 great demo songs called "Ghost of plenty" and "We all want to be loved" that is too good to be left unheard. Do you have any plans on doing something with those songs?

Jonathan: Oh my goodness! I haven't thought about those songs in awhile. I'll dig back into my catalog. I am flattered that you know about them."

Early 90s puts them more in the 'Bad English' timeframe.

The interviewer said it was from the 90's, not him. I haven't heard of "Ghost Of Plenty" though...maybe that one's from the 90's. Perry is definitely singing "We All Want To Be Loved" though. This was brought up here a while ago and discussed in great length...they recorded a few demos back during Frontiers.

I'm only going off of what was discussed back then, and taking people at their word. Here's another of those songs. It was also said to have originated at the same time...

Now, to me, THAT sounds like Steve Perry. The other voice isn't even close. The other song has all the wrong inflections, wrong speed of vibrato, wrong vowel sounds. All wrong. This new song sounds like Steve.

Personally, I never heard that as Perry, there is a definite difference in tonal quality of this guy's voice. I also agree that this was a 90's song based on the the synth and drum sounds. I've had this for years on a CD of demos that Cain and Tony Brock did.

I can't download the file (megaupchuck just keeps asking me to enter 3 letters in an endless loop) but I definitely didn't sing any unreleased material except for the Revelation writing demos.

Real time analisys:

Sounds like "Bad English" time, Cain copped the piano riff for Warren's "WISYS"

It sounds like Perry not being self-conscious about being "PERRY." I'd be about 95% it's Perry. But there's parts that definitely DON'T sound like Perry.

Could it be Mickey? It sure sounds like Mickey on the choruses. Could this have been something done w/Mickey during the post Trial By Fire auditions?

Not sure. I cannot see it being a demo during the Frontiers sessions. The sounds are NOT early 80's here.

I would email Mr Cain but he set his email preferences to return anything coming from my email server, so I guess it will remain without a definitive answer.

Well, I don't know for sure. I just emailed JC about the time revelation was certified platinum for congrats, told him about our new baby coming in July, and told him to check out my new tune with John Spinks but then the email was returned saying something like "Your email address was rejected by the addressee's server" or something like that. Oh well....If that's the case I see it as his loss, though I still think he's a cool dude.

Jeremy, that could have been because he or his email provider has his spam preferences set too high, and something in your email sent up a flag to the software. Most current programs give you the option to look at it before rejecting, but if it hasn't been updated in the last year or so, something may have triggered it, especially if he had put together a 'white list' and didn't include your addy.
