I've stayed at Excalibur, Tropicana, Imperial Palace, and seen Planet Hollywood. No big problems with any of them. And really, when you're in Vegas, why be in your room longer than a few sleeping hours?

I can tell you the buffets suck at Excalibur and Tropicana, but they're very good at Planet Hollywood, Wynn, and Bellagio. Caesars is meh for buffet.

My 2 cents: I've stayed at The Mirage and LOVED it, and Aladdin's but I think that's Planet Hollywood now?? I've been inside most all of the hotels on the strip though and I really liked Paris, MGM, Bellagio, Caesar's and The Venetian was my favorite. Have a great trip! I love it there.

Bill's Gamblin Hall...formerly Barbary Coast. Not kidding here.

My Top 10 Reasons to stay
...
10) Rooms are big and feature 40" flat screen tvs.
9) Casino restroom stocked with necessities, including Aqua Velva!
8 ) Rates are usually reasonable.
7) Location is great...on the corner of Flamingo and the Strip. Directly next to Flamingo, across street from Bally's, Bellagio & Ceasars. Short walk to Paris, PH, Harrahs, Mirage.
6) Great cocktail service in the casino (albeit it is old and pretty smokey)
5) Operable windows...you can take a shower with the window opened to the strip. Don't worry...they are eye level so unless you're Shaq...nothing is exposed.
4) Free access to Flamingo pool.
3) Big Elvis appears almost daily in the lounge. Lounge opens to casino and when Elvis isn't playing...acts are normally pretty good.
2) you can get from the cab to your room in about 3 minutes. 30 steps to the counter...never a line...10 steps to the elevator and up a max of four floors. And the casino is small enough you can't get lost!
1) They have the best cheap hotdogs on the planet...for $1.75. Check it out in the sports book.

I hate to give away this secret as it may get out and then room rates will rise. Oh well.

I think you will enjoy them ---they have been there about 6-7 years ----you don't have to stay there --it is outside for all who walk by---and some interesting characters do indeed walk by-

Ya, too bad we missed that the day before. The whole stay was a blast though, a simply "must do" again. :)

And can't forget my Harrah's buddy. :P

Well, I can tell you where NOT to stay....the Imperial Palace. That place used to be a great deal. Located right in the center of the strip. But I've noticed over the past 2 years or so, it's become a dump. I stayed there last month and the room was awful.

Had a similar experience in November...Boulder Station. Thought the rooms would be better because I like the Yellow Brick Road band and the Rail so much....but they're wore out. Bottom line is, pick a place that's new...like South Point or the Eastside Cannery. Last ten years I always had decent rooms at the Sahara and Four Queens...but maybe that's because I didn't know any better. What sucks about Vegas is the Indian Casinos are out doing them on nice rooms and food. They are so superior it's pathetic!
