I had a chance to watch the Bon Jovi documentary "When We Were Beautiful" last weekend. While I've always been a Bon Jovi fan (I have most of their cd's and have seen them live 2x), I've got to tell you that I came away with a totally different view of Jon.

1) The one thing that cheeses me off the most about musicians/celebrities is when they say that "life on the road is rough, lonely, yada, yada, yada." Give me a freakin break! This is the life you wanted and they life you chose. You are living the life that only a few very lucky individuals get to live and you have the adacity to whine about it?. Jon has attained an absolute FORTUNE by playing live shows. He is so stinking rich he would never need to play another live show again if he didn't want to. So Jon, give us all a break and shut your freakin mouth.

2) Jon has a VERY high opinion of himself. One of the things that's always driven me nuts about this guy is how serious he takes himself and his "craft." Let's face it, Bon Jovi is a rock band and Jon's vocal abilities have never been more than average. When I hear him talking about how good his cover version of the song "Halleuiah" is in this documentary I want to throw up. Your voice is average Jon! You are a rock singer, not a vocalist.

I am the biggest Jovi fan on the planet.They have some of the best pop/rock songs you'll ever hear and their live shows are awesome.
But i have to agree with you Carleysdad.Your spot on,jbj is an arrogant prick.The documentary seems to be more on jbj than the band.
I had a friend of mine meet him on the dest anywhere tour in sydney and he said he was very business like.Enough said.
While i love the band i think ive had enough of jbj and his whining.

I think Jon used to be a phenomenal singer, particularly during the KTF and These Days eras. The last 10 years or so...his voice has really thinned out and he's lost a lot of the rasp and the depth his voice used to have.

I've been to three Bon Jovi concerts, Have a Nice Day Tour in Portland, Oregon, The Tiger Woods Special in Las Vegas, and Lost Highway Tour in Anaheim.
I love Richie Sambora's vocals, and I have his solo albums. I have never cared for Jon's vocals. When I go to these shows I watch Richie the whole time and it isn't like Jon is even there. I just love it when Jon takes a back seat for ONE freakin song and Richie does a solo. OMG. I live for that moment in every concert. Maybe Jon knows that Richie is the better singer. However, Jon may be the better business man and showman that has kept the band alive and together for all of these years. I give him credit for that. I think that is the reason why Richie is content in taking a back seat and lets Jon take the spotlight. Jon likes the spotlight too. Jon never seems to age. He's in amazing shape and physically pleasing on the eyes, but Richie, OMG.. he's just so incredible. Given the chance to meet Jon or Richie, it would be Richie 100% of the time.

Richie is one talented bastard. LOVE the guy's playing and his first solo album is really REALLY good. I've seen BJ twice. Once when Jersey came out and once one Bounce came out. Jon is very... Hokey live. Poses a lot and just says stuff between songs that sounds really 'canned'. Almost like every show's the same. His voice is also incredibly tight sounding on a lot of his vowels. Bugs the crap outta me. I really wanna like them, and sometimes I really do, but Jon needs to let loose a bit and not be so stiff in my opinion.

I think Jon is really lucky to have the backing vocals of Richie and for having a band around him with such talent.
He is also very lucky to have good looks because that helps him with a lot of the fans. I don't care for him myself, but I can see
that he has an uncanny youthful look that never seems to change, only the hair changes. I'm grateful that Jon hung in there with Richie
when Richie was going through his tough times a while back, with rehab, divorce, death of his dad and all. I think Richie is doing very well now.
I like the music they produce, however it comes about, I think they really have long lasting appeal for 25 years plus! After seeing sold out stadiums they play too, I get a sad feeling that I never got to see Steve Perry in his glory in concert. What a complete and total shame that I missed that entire era, living on a ranch in the middle of nowhere, no phone, no t.v., no radio. I loved my life on that ranch, but I see that I really missed something great because of it.
