Outside of that, I'd say DDY might be a better showman.
Douche...

Go look at DDY during the Kilroy tour singing Rockin the Paradise and tell me honestly he doesn't look like Billy Squire in that video that killed his career. Dennis ain't no Mick Jagger. Argue the points and you'll come off a lot better than a DDY pole smoker.

I give you props for bringing up that horrible Billy Squire video. Wow, that video was really creepy. It was like he was beating off or something!

Ummm, go watch JY in that fucking video - spanking himself, pinching Tommy's ass in Best Of Times, and looking like a lion masturbating.

I don't really remember JY in that video but I have no doubt you're right. JY's stage presence isn't my cup of tea either. I'll give him the sneer and that's about it.

Gowan is just nowhere near as talented as DeYoung. That song needs Dennis. His voice makes that song come alive. Gowan's doesn't. Still a good performance, though.

You should probably clarify that to say Gowan's voice isn't nearly as talented as Dennis's voice. Gowan is extremely talented especially as a keyboardist/pianist. He also has ten times the stage presence of Dennis. Dennis needed to stay behind the piano/keyboard. As far as his voice, I agree.

If anyone knows how to translate this sentence, I'd appreciate it. I put it through "mac translator" but it apparently doesn't speak Creepish.

Be nice, Higgy!! She's saying she has fallen in love w/Styx again
because of Larry~who is not a sound alike...I believe she's comparing the situation to Journey, the unnamed "other band" and
their sound alike singer...I don't think he's a sound alike at all, JMO!!

Not that I don't enjoy Styx, I still do very much. It's just that the copycat thing seems to be too obvious to explain any other way.

Right, Styx waited two years for their chance to copy DDY with a *gasp* show on New Year's Eve. I bet they were just sitting around looking at DDY's tour schedule and dreaming of when they could headline a show on New Year's Eve just like he did.

Stop making ridiculous statements.

Sorry friend, it's a free country, I'm allowed my opinion. And you're allowed yours.

And in other news, Glass Tiger is following Honeymoon Suite around

Gowan's not the vocalist Dennis is, but he is TWICE the player that Dennis is.
How can one get a copy of this whole show? Nicely filmed.

Please though- QUIT singing Miss America live. Blech.
NO. He's NOT Steve F'ing Perry. But he's Arnel F'ing Pineda and I'm okay with that.

Gowan isn't a soundalike, but is in the same range. And Arnel, for anyone who really follows the concerts, isn't a soundalike, definitely huskier, but is a tenor voice and does justice to the songs in a great way. For God's sake, even my tween niece knows the difference on the GH and the remakes as to who is Arnel and who is Steve from the very beginning.

Gowan does a great job on this song, not as great vocally as DDY, no doubt, but not so different as to distract from the song and the sound of Styx, and I love his energy on stage.

Stage presence refers to your noticability on stage, Your ability to captivate an audience, your energy. Lack of stage presence implies a performer doesn't move around much, have much charisma to speak of, or is otherwise dull.

It seems that maybe you prefer something more classy, given your affinity for phrases like "fist fucking shithead."

That recording is from the Canadian TV broadcast. I usually record the whole thing but missed doing so this year (plus all the commercial breaks piss me off so I usually give up trying to edit it). Looks like the person who posted this has a few songs up there, though.

Only the last half of Styx was broadcasted/filmed. Short of A Criminal Mind, a DVR'd version of every song they did is on youtube.

Their first six or so songs weren't on camera.

That setlist contains exactly 2 of their 8 top ten hits! That's got to be the lowest ratio of hits any band touring today is playing!
But I guess the only other song they could have added was Lady. I do not want to hear Gowen sing Babe/BestofTimes/Roboto/Don't Let it End/ShowmetheWay!

They are the only band that is arrogant enough to forget their past - by kicking out their lead singer and ignoring 75% of their top 10 hits. No wonder they can't draw more than 3000 or get a record deal. JY is an idiot.

I agree about the ballads because they just don't suit his voice, but if you've heard the poppier, 80s electronica side of Gowan's solo stuff, I honestly don't think "Mr. Roboto" would be a huge stretch for him. I actually think it could be cool. And the crowds would go nuts. When they played that tiny little snippet in the Medley, everyone used to go crazy as I recall.

I hope all is well.

Styx was awesome that night. I watched the perfomance on T.V. a few times. I saw Styx live in the Niagara Falls Casino about a year ago. They are a great band live. I am very happy that Gowan is their singer. I am a big Gowan fan. I hope he remains their singer for a long time.
