Fair points. But I never said anything about hoarding. Personal responsibility and each citizen having a level of savings (stocks, bonds, real estate equity, cash, etc) and a plan where the rate of savings outpaces the rate of debt will make more people home owners, retire earlier and live easier. The "spend it as fast as you get it" (or faster!) method will only lead to where we're at now ... a bunch of fucking belly-aching whiners (and a few hard luck cases) that didn't prepare as they should have. That's why you see people begging for an extension on unemployment and all of these foreclosures and repossessions. Just couldn't do without that iPhone, huh? Like anything (except drinking  ), spending should be responsible and in moderation. Watching people bust through Walmart on Black Friday to spend their welfare check (which is my money) isn't impressive.

Really, all that graph shows is that government has gotten much larger (and thus more expensive). But, regardless, I can agree with what you're saying. My point was that money always seems to come from those that work. God forbid we ever inconvenience deadbeats.

I posted it yesterday..apparently the NORKS sent 19 longer range missiles to Iran and we know it. As I've said many times before, don't blame the messenger for the news.

I'm not blaming you bro, it's just the way the article reads that suggests it happened first without our knowledge, and then was discovered later.

An Iranian nuclear scientist has been killed and another injured in separate attacks in Tehran today.
The scientists were targeted in two different locations by men riding motorcycles who attached bombs to their car windows as they drove to work.

One device killed Dr Majid Shahriari, a member of the nuclear engineering faculty at the Tehran University, and wounded his wife.

The second blast seriously wounded nuclear physicist Dr Fereidoun Abbasi. His wife was also injured.

I don't know. I have a lot of friends that have been out of work a while. Of course, I also have friends that aren't looking because they get such a long benefit. How do you protect the truly hurting and yet still encourage people to get back to work if they can? I personally have no answer.

It's a double-edged sword for sure, but you're more likely to see people really hit the pavement and truly look for (and accept) jobs if they know the benefit is finite. *I* have seen far more abuses than I have people simply unable to find work. Sometimes you just have to accept that your pay is going to be cut as much as in half. I think it would go a long way in teaching people to save for a rainy day. Most people in this country live way beyond their means and then expect unemployment benefits to float them forever. Fuck that. You should be able to survive for at least a year with no pay by the time you're 40. That doesn't seem to be asking too much. Especially since the first 6 months are "on the house!"

How about an unemployment system that actually works for the people? The problem that I'm seeing now is that it isn't really designed to help those unemployed continue to make ends meet. Sure, every little bit helps, but I wonder how many of those unemployed are losing their homes because even in the short-term they aren't able to pay their mortgages on their unemployment benefits. I think we should definitely look at reducing the length of time someone is able to receive benefits, because there are those out there taking advantage of the system, but how about a 'graduated' payment system whereby recipients get a much larger amount initially (closer to their own incomes perhaps) that is reduced each month until the benefits exhaust. I think everyone would benefit from this - it is a real help to those who are not professionally unemployed and will be a kick in the pants for those that become complacent and just sit around waiting for the check to show up. Hell, back in the day people had to actually get out an LOOK for work - now it's done in the comfort of your home sitting in front of the computer between soap operas.

Someone close to me is getting ready to lose his home because he cannot meet his mortgage - he's only been unemployed for a few months but what he gets isn't even close to meeting his daily living expenses. It's really sad to see this for someone who has worked VERY hard his entire life, but due to the construction downturn (those shovel ready jobs, schools, etc... ) there wasn't another project for him after his last one finished. We should be taking care of THESE people first - the ones who have actually contributed to our society. As a vietnam war vet, little league coach, church deacon, and loving family man, he deserves the benefits that should be coming his way. Unfortunately those benefits are being diverted to things like the 'dream act' - now you tell me, where are the fucked up principals???

And another thing... anyone else get a laugh out of the commercial praising the new healthcare law for allowing Medicare recipients to get reduced prices on BRAND name prescriptions when they hit their donut hole? 50% of $100 is still 50 bucks - and if you can get a generic for $4, who's not gonna do that? WASHINGTON – A malicious computer attack that appears to target Iran's nuclear plants can be modified to wreak havoc on industrial control systems around the world, and represents the most dire cyberthreat known to industry, government officials and experts said Wednesday.

Ahmadinejad Confirms Several Iran Centrifuges Affected by Computer Virus

Iran President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad confirmed that several centrifuges used to enrich uranium as part of the country’s nuclear program were affected by malicious computer software.

“Problems were created for a limited number of centrifuges due to the software installed in some of the electronic equipment,” Ahmadinejad said today in Tehran in comments aired on state television. “Our experts discovered them and today they are no longer able to do such a thing.” He didn’t identify the software involved.

Symantec Corp., the world’s largest maker of computer security software, said in a Nov. 12 study that the Stuxnet virus may have been created to sabotage Iran’s uranium- enrichment work. Iranian authorities, while admitting that the so-called malware had affected some of the country’s computer systems, said they had regained control of their networks and foiled the “enemies’” cyber attacks.

Fact Finder wrote:Bank Of America Selling Accelerates, As Fears Spread That It's In The Wikileaks Crosshairs

Joe Weisenthal, On Tuesday November 30, 2010, 2:00 pm

Bank of America is down over 1.7% right now, far underperforming the rest of the banking sector, as fears spread that it's the target of a forthcoming Wikileak.

Last night the news broke that Wikileaks founder Julian Assange said the next leak would be a bank, and today it was discovered that in 2009 he said he had 5GB of data on the bank. Ominously in the interview he warned that new revelations could take down a bank.

By comparison, Citigroup is up 1.8%, and Wells Fargo is flat right now.

Interpol is all over him. He won't be able to travel to 188(I think) countries who are members of Interpol. Dude is fucked.

However, I am not so quick to call him treasonous. The guy may be trying to get people see the evil ways world governments work behind the scenes. Talk about transparency? Personally, what he did was fucked up. I am just playing Devil's advocate here. He will be in Swedish custody before week's end I am willing to bet.

As for the Russian government getting involved, good luck. What are they going to do that the US government can't? Strong arming isn't going to play here. The stolen chip is well, stolen already. What, is some super Ruskie spy going to get to Assange before Interpol and the local law enforcements do? Hardly.

Yep, they were great last year and beat Philly for the Cup. However, they lost their goalie and Byfuglen, or whatever his name is. Dude was a huge force in front of the net and he elected to take the money and went to that hotbed of hockey, say it with me, A-T-L-A-N-T-A.

Oh and add to that, here at work yesterday one of the area's Medicaid reps came in to tell us the changes they are making to supposedly "crack down" on Medicaid abuse (yeah right, I'll believe it when I see it  ) since this year alone there has been an 80% increase in people signing up for Medicaid here. Of which she said, as I've always seen for the last 16 years, a GOOD amount of whom do not TRULY NEED it. They just "need" their brand new cars, iphones, and designer purses more, and the government "owes" them Medicaid because of that.

Wow. 2010 troop casualties almost surpass the combined casualties from 01-08!!!! I heard Obama wanted to implement a "never shoot first" military policy. I wonder if he's got the troops wearing flack jackets with bullseyes on them?
What a nice guy he is. I'm sure Osama is happy the "previous administration" is gone!

By the way remember how the "sensationalist" media used to always count up the total casualties on the air? What happened to that?

Mel, this is something that really gets me. Liberals call conservative selfish, only caring about themselves, the "rich" not wanting to help the poor, etc. Speaking solely for myself, I would do almost anything I could to help those truly in need, but they aren't really the ones benefitting by the government because there are so many people abusing the system. It's the same with the unemployment benefits - I know there are people who are really trying to get back to work - but there are also those that are gonna suck every last dime outta the system before they have to find a job.

I'm not surprised by the Medicaid rep's comment, and I'm sure you're not either. It makes me sick.

Of which she said, as I've always seen for the last 16 years, a GOOD amount of whom do not TRULY NEED it. They just "need" their brand new cars, iphones, and designer purses more, and the government "owes" them Medicaid because of that.

Nope I wasn't surprised at all, none of us were, and that's sad!
