They were given the short field by whom? The refs?

They made the plays on both sides of the ball, and harassed Brady all day. They got beat soundly!

Dude....2 onsides kicks, a botched fake punt, and an INT....FOUR TIMES.

2 onside kicks were the result of being beaten for the first 3 1/2 quarters.
A botched fake punt, blame either your coach or the dope that dropped the ball.
An INT, the result of the pressure the Jets defense put on Brady.

Matt....learn some football. The INT came on a screen. The ball just got away from Brady....there was no pressure on that play. That's a 14 pt swing right there. And the dropped pass by Alge....Jets had a missed FG. And drove the filed ONCE.

Dude, they got beat! The Jets weren't given anything. They made the plays and the Patriots didn't. And stop calling me Matt!

Ok....Himmlerfan....learn the game. Stick to Hockey.

As long as you deal with the game, and the fact that your team just got their collective asses kicked. You're the one that promised to stay out of the football threads not me! Be a MAN of your word. :D

Dude...what the fuck are you talking about and more importantly, what the fuck are you smoking? The Brady "myth"? What the fuck does that even mean? Listen, I'm the first one to step up and say that Brady played AWFUL today. It's the worse I've seen in play in recent memory. That said, you do realize that the guy has three rings and will be a runaway winner of his second MVP this season, right? Guy could quit tomorrow and still go down as one of the greatest QB's in NFL history. Hell, that fucking fraud Favre hasn't won anything since the world was fucking flat, and he still has ball-washers all over this country who thinks he's the greatest player in the history of the NFL. By the way, I agree with you that the call of the fake punt was a bad call. I also agree with RWF that if Chung doesn't muff the snap, he has the first down, EASILY, and a whole lot more. That said, I've never believed that a play is the right play, just because it worked. You have to analyze the time and place of the game, and the consequences of what could go wrong. Really bad play, and Belichick needs to know better than that. I'm in the unenviable position of watching two teams that I absolutely abhor play next week. I could give a shit who wins, but I do know that there are a whole lot of Steeler fans who are VERY happy that they're facing the Jets and not playing the Patriots.

It's an ass kicking if your team starts kicking onside kicks with over 5 minutes left in the 4th quarter.

It's an ass kicking when your team beat the other team by 42 points not very long ago...THEN is forced to kick onside kicks with over 5 minutes to go, as well as when you are a heavy favorite to WIN in your own house, and loss by a touchdown.

That too!

My point was that Billy boy, had zero confidence that his defense could hold the Jets to the 3 and out that they needed. They were desperate, because they were being taken to the woodshed.

S2M I think it's funny that the same thing you made fun of the Steelers for yesterday, turn overs, piss poor playing; mistakes , you are making excuses about for the Patriots.

The Jets out executed the Patriots today overall, plain and simple. Their D didn't play NEARLY as well as they have been, and it showed.

Let me ask you do you think the youth on the defense has hit the wall? They really looked tired and it happens to young teams sometimes that just aren't used to the grind of a season plus.

I agree the Pats will only get better. Which is cool, as much as I hate the team (for spoiling the Steelers from have a couple of more touchdowns potentially), the organziation is top notch and I don't know if there is a better coach overall in the NFL than Belichick.

See, that's where you are wrong. All I said was that a couple of uncharacteristic plays decided this game. If NE won I would have said the same thing about them as i did about the Steelers....There is no doubt that NE lost this game. Obviously NE wasn't as good as week 13. A pick and a dropped pass....that's what ya get....it's not rocket science.

I don't believe the defense "hit the wall". They simply didn't play great, but their defense wasn't even really their problem today. Their offense couldn't get out of its own way and was atrocious! I thought the Patriots defense was really "a house of cards" for most of the season and said so. They made a ton of plays during the season, in spite of giving up a whole lot of yards. I knew if they didn't step up and force turnovers or put the pressure on the opposing QB, they were fucked. That said, if the Patriots were even half as good offensively today as they were most of the regular season, their defensive effort would have been good enough to beat the Jets. The Jets really didn't do anything remotely outstanding during the game today. They simply took advantage of the ridiculous field position that the Patriots kept giving them. I'm not a betting man, but if I were, I would feel VERY confident about a return trip to the Super Bowl for the Steelers (who I don't see beating Aaron Rodgers).

Jets pull big upset; man jumps from building

Thusly informed

BOSTON- Minutes after the New York Jets football team stunned the New England Patriots what is said to be a huge upset, 28-21, a man, whom was identified by Melodic Rockers as S2M, decided to commit suicide by jumping out of the 69th floor of Boston's South Bay Tower, January 16th, 2011.

Police came to the aid at the historic landmark when a 911 caller reported seeing a leg from 33rd Street at about 8:30 p.m Eastern time. The reason Mr.S2M wanted to commit suicide is currently unknown by the general public, more insight may come further from family and co-workers, but friends last saw S2M leave his home around the 5:00 mark in the 4th quarter of Sunday's afternoon game when the Patriots failed to recover an onside kick. Friends close to S2M and those who were last with the man claim he was in a serious mental condition, swaying back and forth mumbling "they never lose, they never lose, they gave it away.. they gave it away." Seconds later, he was seen leaving his residence and his whereabouts were unknown. More details to come at the 11:00 news

That was probably the best game I've seen all season. I think the last time I enjoyed a game that much was when the Giants won the Superbowl against the Pats a few years ago. But, with the Pats being as good as they are, I don't think I breathed for the entire three hours today... even when the Jets were ahead by two touchdowns with less than two minutes to go, I knew the Pats had the talent to get a win if the Jets weren't extra careful.

I'm shocked that the Pats didn't win this game. If there was by some chance that the Pats would lose this one, today would be that day that EVERYTHING the Jets needed, happened. I agree with John, I think the Pats defense played exceptionally well and played enough to win the game. Ironically, it was the Pats offense that was way out of sync, out of rhythm and seemed frustrated to death.

At some points, I couldn't believe I was watching the same Patriots team. They looked way out of character, even by how they prepared. They seemed to play into the Jets hands, their bread and butter and seem to have more calls called on the ground, which I didn't get. To beat the Jets D, you need to spread them out and that's the Pats forte'. Kind of reminded me of the Jets beating the Steelers earlier. It seemed like the Steelers had their number, but the Jets just hung in and they held on to my dismay. Weird seeing the Pats play that bad on offense because I think Sanchez and that Jets offense is TERRIBLE and they were terrible tonight on many drives.

I STILL don't get that call. The Jets weren't interested in a first down...they were happy with running 3 draws and punting it. Why the Hoodie onsided kick is beyond me, althought they had a decent chance to get it.

That tells me he has NO confidence in his defense.

Possibly because Brady was having a hard time finding receivers and was being sacked quite a lot as a result. Woodhead was more of a threat today than Brady was. I’m normally scared of what Brady’s going to do, whereas today I stopped worrying about him. He was basically just a run-of-the-mill quarterback today. But whenever Woodhead got the ball, I cringed because I knew they were going to chew up some serious yardage.

I agree. I think it had tons to do with that Brady was getting knocked around and actually hitting turf with noone down-field. There were multiple plays to where Brady DID have the time to set his feet, scan the field and deliver with absolutley nothing down the gun barrel. That's one helluva feat for the Jets defense to man up and take Brady's weapons away from him. Rarely been done and it seems like the Pats didn't have an answer to get separation away from the Jets secondary, who seemed to be clingy ALL night. IMHO, it was the Jets open field tackling that did the trick. The Pats offense relies so much on yards after the catch and the Jets didn't allow much, if any at all overall.

old guy perspective....:)

I had season tix to the Niners....78-87 (when I came here)....this first round bye is great on paper...but every so often.....these teams start sluggish...maybe a half step off...and the team that played the week before jumps em...saw it a few times with the Niners...I remember a Viking game for sure...Walsh actually pulled Montana.....Young kinda brought us back...but Vikings won...A Carter went nutso...gotta keep whatever mo you have...even thru the bye...if it means practicing harder...so be it....

Weekend recap:

The better team won all 4 games (though the Steelers and Ravens are virtual equals). The Bears had another bye week and beat up an awful Seahawks team. The game was hardly even worth watching. Total garbage to be playing a sub.500 team in the second round of the playoffs.

The Packers took it to the Falcons. Green Bay kicked the shit of them (almost) from start to finish.

The Steelers and Ravens was a good game. The Ravens seemingly had the game in hand and literally gave it away. You can't turn the ball over on the road and win in the playoffs. This game was all but over ... until Ray Rice and typical Joe Flacco started coughing it up.

Jets took care of a vastly overrated New England team. Tom Brady's clock management was reprehensible, but the game was won in the trenches. The Jets allowed ZERO sacks and won the battle of the lines, especially on defense, sacking Brady 5 times. Rex outcoached Belichick ... just like he said he would. The Jets are simply the better team, having won 2 of 3 ... the third game and rubber match being in New England where the Patriots had a bye week to prepare.

Look ahead:

Packers and Bears. The Packers are the hottest team in the league right now (slightly ahead of the Jets) and appear the front runner to win it all. I'm gonna have to go with the Packers in this one. Bears would need to play a near perfect game to win. Packers by 10.

Steelers and Jets is a toss up. You have to wonder if this is simply too much to ask of the Jets. Winning 3 games on the road against the Colts, Patriots and Steelers would be, BY FAR, the toughest road EVER to get to the Super Bowl. They would have to beat 3 teams with SIX combined Super Bowls and EIGHT total appearances in the Super Bowl. Seems a bit too muc to do. I'm going with the Steelers by 6.

This is why the NFL is the best league... ;-) the 4 games were simply amazing...w ell throw out the Bears Seahawks...
The Seahawks looked like a 7-9 team yesterday... The Steelers Defense and what it did the Ravens during that 2nd half... WOW... THE JETS taking to the PATS...domination through out... the score might not indicate it, but Brady was not sharp at all... they seemed a step slower... and the jets were HUNGRY...

and what can I say about the PACK... just played extremely well... and are peaking at the right time... this was DOMINATION at its finest... against the #1 seed... WOW... I think the Packers have too many weapons on offense...for the Bears to be able to stop them totally... but this is rival game...longest in history of the league... so anything can happen... 5 weeks ago I left this team for dead and here they are one game away from Super Bowl... DAMN... just pretty phenominal whole team effort... very pumped for the Packers/Bears game...

Yep yep yep yep. And after the Jets' nonsense` I expect that Belichick will be in full-blown post videogate mode where he tries to punish the league for being made to look bad.
In fact, I believe he's already at full-blown DEFCON 5 now singeing the midnight oil trying to figuge a way to beat Rex by 70,000 points next year and then go for 2 at the end.
Give this coach an offseason to stew over this?? They might very well complete the 19-0 next year fueled by Belichick's anger alone.

The Jets had the better GAME yesterday, but are not the better TEAM. Really. Mark Sanchez over Tom Brady? Don't think so.

The Jets showed what classless assholes they are when at least a half dozen of them repeatedly gave Pats fans the middle finger after the game yesterday. You've got all these Neanderthal mouth-breathers flapping their fat, illiterate mouths now...I hope the Steelers fucking CRUSH that bag of shit team.

I'll stand by my statements prior to the game that I thought it was going to be very close. I'm surprised EITHER team had a 14 point lead at any time. Between Belichick having his worst game ever as a coach - running the ball 6 times on 9 plays down by 10 in the fourth, and going for a fake punt with a minute left against a mediocre quarterback who would NEVER have been able to get his team 90 yards in 55 seconds, let alone in field goal range...wow...inexplicably stupid.

The core of the Pats is going to remain intact - other than Light and Mankins, there really isn't an impact player up for free agency in 2011 (assuming they play next year, God save our souls). With 6 of the first 90 picks - two in each round - and a very young team that will now have some experience, plus the infusion of a massive amount of talent - the Pats should be contenders for the next 6-7 years.

What concerns me is the 3 striaght playoff losses - two at home. The lesson was supposed to have been learned LAST year, after the Ravens game, not again this season.

Final post on this topic...Brady did enough to win. Crumpler dropped the pass. Belichick pissed this game away with his decisions. Jets did nothing but keep the score respectable....Like I said earlier, Jets drove the length of the field ONCE. NE better draft a fucking pass rusher. I'm out.....
Tom Brady IS the G.O.A.T.

The lesson was supposed to have been learned LAST year, after the Ravens game, not again this season.

this from the same team who danced on the Chargers mid field after winning a few years ago in the playoffs... please... classy team my ass...
