Arctic sea ice has been steadily thinning, even in the last few years while the surface ice (eg - sea ice extent) increased slightly. Consequently, the total amount of Arctic sea ice in 2008 and 2009 are the lowest on record.

Greenland and Antarctica experienced the highest recorded melt rate since monitoring began in 1958 with a melt area that was also the highest on record since monitoring begin in 1978. The rate of area loss in marine-terminating glaciers was also calculated to be the greatest on record with 417 km2 of glacier ice being lost.

Various independent measurements of solar activity all confirm the sun has shown a slight cooling trend since 1978.

And, to conclude, the ARTICLE you posted was not peer-reviewed. Not one of those scientists is a peer-reviewed climatologist. 'Nuff said. Move along.

Wonder what was going through the minds of the mammoths, sabertooth tigers and mastodons when the glaciers that helped sculpt the Rocky Mountains started to melt?

Here's my issue with it. Number 1, it goes to character. Arnie, Weiner, Newt, whoever. If they would take the most sacred relationship humans have and piss it away for a hard on, I can't possibly think they'd have my little ol interests at heart. It's an attitude of I'll do what I want and who cares who gets hurt in the long run.

Second, and I am not sure if I am overstating this or not, there is the blackmail problem. Look at the Edwards situation. He spent over a million dollars of someone's money to try and keep his matters private. A million dollars! Plus he threw his friend and friend's family under the bus. In order to do that, one must truly have a desire to keep something secret. Would a vote on a particular matter be that big of a deal then? I'd rather vote against people then waste a million dollars and ruin an innocent family.

So I don't think Weiner is any better or worse than many people. But if you are an elected official, and you go against the grain of what's considered appropriate, then you have to be ready to be drummed out of office when you get caught. And yes, it's a political fight on both sides when someone on either side gets caught. Plenty of Republicans have been pushed out over things like this. I think with Arnie, people knew what they were getting, so it's probably less of an impact. Anyone that would want someone with ZERO experience to lead the 8th largest economy in the world was asking for it anyway.

Not sure why, but I do feel bad for the guy. Women sure hold a lot of political power. Surprised he is not resigning. It was a pretty stunning admission, but he probably figures it will pass. Americans have a very short attention span.

It's because he lied to all of the press for the last week and now they smell blood in the water...he all but admitted that Breitbart does have a porno pic that he sent to some gal...the media will not let that go.

Yea, I guess once you know it is there, they are not going to stop until it's unveiled. I'm surprised Breitbart hasn't released it. Though I notice his style is to release little by little to extend the news cycle.

Not that it did already but damn, he'll know he's damn near invincible and that's not a good trait to have in a Congressman.

Oh please. Weiner is EFFECTIVE for his district. He brings home the goods. He was elected to do just that. Yet, you find harmony in embracing a true piece of shit in Andrew Brietbart. Talk about scum of the Earth.

I hope Weiner stays on and sticks it to your sorry asses one more time. You know the GOP still can't beat him.

Stop right there. We aren't electing people to be nuns or preachers. Look at Bill Clinton for your one and only needed example. The guy flat out kicked ass, but....wait for it....he got smoked by an intern in his office! Shock! Horror! Let's get rid of him. Nice try.

Sure Weiner fucked up, but to now have the GOP and all it's hawks feasting on the yet dead carcass, when just last week one of their own was in far worse shape, and none said a single word, reeks of hypocrisy.

Who the Hell cares that Weiner wanted to have phone sex with a hottie from Seattle? So what?

We need to stop thinking and believing America is some kind of Christian nation, with all these religious values and fake bullshit, when just the opposite is true and needed. We need to have giving hearts yes, but we also need to assfuck these desert needle dick camel jocks right off the face of the planet.

Hell, IDK, I am getting drunk.

I think the Weiner is a disgrace of a human being. It's up to his constituency to decide whether or not he will be re-elected, recalled, or forced to resign.

Frankly, I figured he was guilty when he wouldn't state whether or not the crotch shot was his.

While we're on the subject, I cannot imagine what would make a man take a picture of his John Thomas, let alone send it to someone, unless it was done in jest. It's not like some woman is going to meet someone online in a chat room or a dating site, get to know that guy over the course of a few weeks, and be hemming and hawing until she saw a photo of his penis. "Oh, he's the one for me, for sure!" Whatever.

Fuck that.

I do or did  this shit all the time. The difference between Anthony and I isn't intelligence...it's job recognition. Anthony can pull pussy 7.....don't think so? think again...he is in the most influential social club known to man.

I LOVE the guy's politics, so I want him to stay and fight it. So what? He showed his johnson to some Seattle hottie? It's far less severe than what Arnold did, Edwards did, or Newt did. Live and let live.

For the record- I love Weiners politics.

Good one.

When did it become vogue to root AGAINST your own country being successful? Is the implementation of a particular economic philosophy or strategy tatamount in importance to the long-term well being of the United States? While I was increasingly NOT a fan of Bush and his policies, I don't believe I crossed that line until 2006 or so, when the economic shit started to hit the proverbial fan. We're all guilty of it now, so I'm not calling anyone out. Just an observation.

On a different note, I would like to find out what makes some people on this forum tick. More specifically, I would like us to list perhaps four or five of our most sacred socio-political beliefs, and how they line up with or stand in constrast to the conventional platforms of the party with which you most closely affiliate yourself.

I'll have you know up front. I would be considered an Independent, and haven't voted since '92.

No. the single mother uses her EBT card to eat free food provided by the other 50% who actually work for a living.

You guys talk about taxing the "Rich" their fair share. What about the ones who pay nothing and yet live off of us? Where's their fair share? Hmmmmmm.

Then (like the story I shared a few months ago) when she has no more room in her freezer for steak and lobster, the single mother of 4 tries to sell her $500 EBT card for $200 to my buddy at work.

Nobody made her have kids. And where's the dad? My friends seemed to have employed a pretty simple formula and it's worked for all of them. They all dated their wives for at least 3 years and waited at least five years to have children. All are doing well, have healthy relationships and are thriving. Me? I wanna spend all of my money on myself, so I didn't have any kids! Seems like this country offers up infinite opportunities for those that educate themselves, plan ahead and make sure they're financially healthy before they have kids. The American dream is alive and well. Now, just as much as ever.

My point was that these Washngton fucks get served all that expensive food, on OUR money, including a President who is turning this country into a 3rd world nation....while a mother(regardless of her marital status) has to work 3 jobs just to scrape by....THAT was my point.

Peas? Ham? Carrots? High-priced menu items those are, indeed.

If you've ever been to a shitty French restaurant - and there are plenty - you'll know it's all about the name and the presentation.

I'm not sure if Obama himself actually put the menu together, as I believe he has a few other things on his plate. Would you have preferred they serve collard greens, fried chicken, and watermelon, to save a few bucks? Kool-Aid or Tab? Or perhaps some Wienerschnitzel for the Kraut? There are far more pressing issues. Go after him for those issues that are within his scope and for which he bears some responsibility - there are plenty.

Give me a little time before we open that can...

Meanwhile, the GOP rolls on!!! The House, in a vote along party lines, refused to allow out of committee legislation that would prevent anyone on the national terror watch list to purchase firearms. That's right! The NRA and the Republicans are defending the right of people on the terrorism watch list to buy weapons!

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20110428/ap_on_re_us/us_watch_list_guns

The list of about 450,000 people includes suspected members of al Qaeda and other terrorist organizations, terror financiers, terror recruiters and people who attended training camps. People's names are added to and removed from the watch list every day, and most people never know whether they're on it.

Lautenberg and two dozen other members of Congress want the attorney general to have the authority to prevent someone on the terror watch list from buying a gun if the attorney general believes that person will use it in a terrorist act. The Justice Department under both the Bush and Obama administrations has supported this effort.

"This is a homeland security issue, not a gun issue, and there's no reason we shouldn't be able to stop a terrorist from buying a dangerous weapon in the United States," Lautenberg told the AP.

Between February 2004 and December 2010, 1,453 people on the terror watch list have attempted to buy firearms or explosives. Of those, 90 percent of the people were allowed to go through with their purchases. There is no public information about anyone on the watch list who was allowed to buy a firearm using it in a crime.

The National Rifle Association, which wields significant political influence in Washington, is opposed to a law that would give the attorney general the authority to deny someone on the watch list the ability to buy a firearm.

I'm not sure anyone (here, anyway) is rooting against our own country, but the criticism of our leaders needs to be nipped in the bud. The worst thing I've seen is how many people called Bush a murderer because of the deaths in Iraq and Afghanistan. While BO has certainly had his share of criticism, I don't think it's gotten to quite that level yet. And IMO, for every white person out there making racist remarks about him, there are 2 accusing those making legitimate criticisms of being racist simply because they don't want to deal with his perceived faults. I want our country to be successful, and that means having successful leadership. But I do not share the president's values and have no problem saying so.

I think my biggest socio-political belief is that of self-responsibility. Whether it's economic, religious, educational, or family values... our society has gotten so far away from even the values that were 'typical' when I was a kid.
