The Horton hit should have been 2 minutes for interference...and that's it. Horton admired his pass and Rome stood him up. Back when hockey used to be good that would have been cheered as a great hit. Now whining commences.

BOSTON -- The Vancouver Canucks will be without Aaron Rome for the rest of the Stanley Cup Final.
The National Hockey League on Tuesday suspended the defenseman four games for delivering a late hit to Boston Bruins forward Nathan Horton in Game 3 of the Stanley Cup Final.
Rome was assessed a five-minute major penalty for interference and a game misconduct at 5:07 of the first period. Horton, who was stretchered off the ice after the hit at the Vancouver blue line, suffered a severe concussion on the hit. Earlier Tuesday, the Bruins announced that Horton will miss the remainder of the Stanley Cup Final.
"Two factors were considered in reaching this decision," said NHL Senior Vice President of Hockey Operations Mike Murphy. "The hit by Rome was clearly beyond what is acceptable in terms of how late it was delivered after Horton had released the puck and it caused a significant injury."
Rome will miss the remainder of the Stanley Cup Final series. If the Final ends before Game 7, the suspension will carry over to the start of the 2011-12 regular season.

Nick Lidstrom can't hear you. He's got 2 Stanley Cup rings plugging his ears and wearing the 2 other rings while fingering Tim Thomas' wife in the front and back door!!!

Just another reason the NHL is a complete joke, when it comes to discipline. There was zero doubt in my mind that the NHL would make an example out of a useless hack like Aaron Rome. If Aaron Rome weren't a 7th defenseman, they would have looked the other way like they did with Burrows. I don't even disagree with the toolbags on this site who think it was a completely okay hit. Fine...let the hit stand. Now, let's get back to old-time hockey. Someone on the Bruins needs snap the neck of Burrows or ass rape one of the Sedin ugly fucks! I'm perfectly okay with trading one top player for another. I'm not okay with a talentless fuck like Rome taking out a top player.

Seven Wishes wrote:Oooh! They suspended an irrelevant, unnecessary fourth-line goon component for deliberately injuring the Bruins' 2011 playoff MVP. Nice. You can bet if it had been one of the Semen sisters that had cheap-shotted Horton, that there wouldn't have even been a slap on the wrist. Bullshit league.

Well to be fair , his Gyno has a patient that is an MVP. Your Gyno, not so much !

It sure was a great legal play when Lerch himself, a Boston player, ran Pacciority(or whatever his name is), into the fuckin stanchion. Rome's hit wasn't THAT bad. A tad late. Now that I see it again and again, and listen to NHL players and coaches, it should have been a 5 minute major/game misconduct- NO suspension.
And as far as sportsmanship. Give it a rest S2M. Your guys were doing the finger dance ALL night long. You looked like jackasses last night.

Dean, give it a rest, dude. Everyone knows most teams deal out cheap shots. It's just that the punishment should fit the crime. Hell, even Dan agrees on this one. More than half the experts I've been reading or listening to say the NHL got it right. Just admit it - if that had been Burrows lining him up and laying him out, Bettman would have sent him a dozen roses and apologized to him and the rest of the Canucks for the five minute major.
The guy deliberately injured the best offensive player on the Bruins! It's either going to cost Boston the series (the likely outcome), or the Bruins are going to be so fired up about it they won't lose another game from this point on. Whoever takes Game 4 takes the series.
