U get an opportunity of a lifetime 2 sing w/ur favorite band of all time as lead. The band isn't making ne chart toppers but u get to be on TV on a show about the band, u get to tour every yr, u get to do radio shows, etc.
Fast forward: a few yrs into this gig, u lose ur voice & can't sing nemore. Some1 suggests u use tapes & the feed that goes 2 the crowd will be the taped version. Meanwhile u act on stage like u r singing. No 1 knows any different. U can pass 4 a singer and go on. The band is good w/u doing this. They will support u.
Honestly, what do u do?
There r some here who say neone would take the tape opportunity. I really wanna know. Would u? Tell the truth.

But what if, to add to all of the above, the band also gets u to put pen to paper ( read:contract ), that no matter what happens, you have to stick with the band and if you do leave, you should be absolutely silent about all that happened within the band..?
Am I making sense....?

In the music scene the whole Journey lipping thing has brought attention to the use of tapes this may make some bands cautious of using them(i hope). I think they shopuld be asked flat out if they are inteviewed if they use tapes as people want to know if this is the kind of show they want to pay money to see!!!
Going back to your question in a small band never, not only for my own pride but it would not feel right,as a singer you are generally expected to sing!!!![]()
In this case of Steve A maybe managment (who they are changing?) said we dont want a change in the band now dont worry use tapes.Steve probably had no choice, can you imagine how it must have felt for him up there lipping songs, constantly worrying if any one would notice or if the tape would stop,or what if i drop my microphone etc.The stress of that would make him ill enough, then a guy called Deano comes along and its all over for Steve.I have said this time and time again he deserved a lot better than this, remember he knows that people know what he did and that must play on his mind a lot.The band/management made a dumb stupid call with the tapes and Steve is left looking stupid.Journey will move on with Jeff and Steve is left behind as the guy who mimed vocals and could not replace Perry, this has undermined everything this poor guy set out to achive when taking over the vocal spot......tragic

I hate when people act illiterate online.

We choose to have keyboards in our band, so guess what - we all took a pay cut and hired a keyboardist.
If we chose not to take the pay cut, then we would choose songs without keyboards.
Bands in my area who use added tracks get zero respect and they seem to have a hard time finding gigs.
