I sincerely believe that Faith in the Heartland, Out of Harms Way, and The Place in Your Heart are incredible songs and could've been up there with the classics if promoted the right way.

Not quite... so a few radio shows an Internet blogs caught wind of the controversy, but it didn't "almost kill" them. Maybe if they were losing big ticket sales, fans BECAUSE OF AUGERI, and the story was a little bigger than a 5-minute convo on Mark and Brian you could say he almost killed them.

They weren't exactly hanging by a thread.

6) No EGO

Hard to have an ego when you aren't very good. Neal has an ego. Frig has one. Jeffie has one. They are all good at what they do.

Isn't that one of the reasons Neal and Jon CHOSE Augeri? He didn't have an ego to fight with...

Well that's right. And I think main problem is that poor Steve Augeri got caught up in the middle because Perry was at the helm for so many years, the time this band made a break through. If you take Perry out of the picture, as if were never in Journey - hell! Steve Augeri would be the best!, but because he had to go out on stage day in and day trying his best for the fans, took its toll on him. Perry didn't have to try, he just did it - that was him, his voice was made for those songs.

It's not everyday you get a chance go and perform with Journey and put in Perry's place, where he was so many years. I think its unlucky on Steve Augeri's part, because regardless how he sings the songs, people will always compare them, and so that is the price you pay for fame. Fans are crazy at the end of the day.

I agree with you 100% on this, Vladan! I've said all along that Augeri was NUTS for even accepting the Journey gig. He was stepping into an impossible situation, and anyone coming into Journey is always going to be compared to Perry. Perry had one of the best voices in the history of music, and it's simply not a voice that's going to be replicated. I think one thing JSS has in his favor is that he sounds nothing like Perry, so there is really no comparison there (even though it will still happen, because of the Journey name). Augeri tried like hell to sound like Perry, and that brought on even more comparisons. You summed up my thoughts...Perry never had to try...He just did it!

I think Steve has sounded great on every studio release he has done with the band.

I'll say this much, "Kiss Me Softly" and "Beyond the Clouds" probably are two of the best of Steve's vocals.
Much less emphasis on Perry/Journey-esque operatic vocal demands, allowing for Steve to inject more of himself and to shine.

Remember Me.

It is the one song that could of easily fit on the Infinity, Escape or Frontiers albums.

It is the only 'classic'Journey song of the Augeri era.

They had some decent songs but none were near as good as their first together.

"Higher Place" is just as good, and in fact, trumps this.

TPIYH is the most radio friendly and recognizable Journey tune of the Augeri-era, IMO.

Some may not agree, but I think With Your Love from Arrival is one of Augeri's finest vocal performances and how could we forget the very under rated Walking Away From The Edge from Red 13.

The Place In My Heart

Although the best song from the 1998-2006 line-up is "A Better Life", I reckon....
