No, I worked for the Safety Department Director... His name was/is Joe Bonelli... I've often thought about him and wondered if he was still alive... Also worked with a guy named John Skinner--do you know them, by any chance? Are you an engineer, Deano?

Skinner got fired, Too many needless crashes, and injuries. Fuckin baggage cart hit a blue hair in Newark and she fell onto the tracks. Train stopped just in time, but she was paralyzed.

I can't believe you know who he is--I thought he would have been gone a long time ago... Amtrak was not the most secure place to work, that's for sure. They were always reorganizing and laying off people. Surely there are other railroads in CA? I guess engineer jobs are scarce; how about conductor jobs? Scarce, too, I bet... So, you don't know who Joe Bonelli was? I really do think of him often; he was quite a character...

Deano, do you mean J. Skinner was head of Safety at one time? When I left, Bonelli wasn't very fond of him anymore... I don't know what happened between them, but Bonelli had groomed him for that position... Also, I don't really know what a blue hair is... Sorry...

I bet you've seen some pretty terrible things, haven't you?

Shitloads of positions available everywhere.

I have seen it all, trust me. I have seen trucks split in two, school buses hit, stationwagons full of beaners struck, drunk drivers driving down the fucking rr tracks in front of us, pedestrian fatalities and o yeah, cement trucks too. Everything.

Yeah, I remember vividly that was one thing I took away from that job--NEVER try and beat a train across the railroad tracks... We used to get all those reports from the NTSB... Pretty awful... I don't know how you can stand it, really... Some of the engineers couldn't take it... But, it's a good living and you get to be outside and travel around, right? I hope they call you back soon!! What about freight? Not your bag?

I used to work for Union Pacific....running trains down the Columbia River Gorge between Washington and Oregon. That was nice, but I have spent 10 hour shifts sleeping, reading and eating, sitting in a train on a siding all day....I don't like the unscheduled aspect of it. Amtrak has schedules, not that they ever adhere to them mind you!

Well, at least you can take in your "gay" show which looks fantastic, by the way. You have had an interesting life, I think. I hope they call you back soon; it's awful being furloughed... Talk to you later :)

I've seen a lot of theater, and this is by far, the best play I've ever seen. Now, let's hope your cast does the play justice. Enjoy it Deano. I plan on getting tickets for the new LA release as well. Gotta get through Xmas first tho.

But Deano have you ever hit a herd of cattle on the tracks? Well my husband did,Beef guts all the way through half of Va.!Although the cattle was on RR property, N&S still compensated the farmer. And there was another time a few yrs. ago he was backing the train up although it was a mile long, when the conductor told him to come on back they did not know there where guys partying along the tracks and were high and one tried to climb between the train and well he got his leg cut off. And yes although they were trespassing on private property N&S compensated the ole guy. Have other stories probaly like yours but that's another day.And they are begging for Engineers in this part of the country.
