OT: Jim Croce: Last Concert he did before passing away.

Do any of you remember Jim Croce? Well, over at Guitars 101, there is a link for his last concert ever. It is an audience recording, and for 1973, it is pretty good. What the poster said, 15 mins after this concert was over, Jim and his guitarist died in a plane crash in Louisiana. This is a part of music history.

Sure do...Jim Croce was one of the best...great writer and storyteller through his songs. Thanks CRL!

LOVE Jim Croce. Bad Bad Leroy Brown, Time in a Bottle, Don't Mess Around with Jim, to name a few. Great stuff.

I really enjoyed the Behind the Music on Jim Croce...they had the promoter who booked the last show on and he saw Jims plane take off and then descend beyond the horizon. Very sad.

Jim's plane crashed in Natchitoches Louisiana.

I went to grad school at Northwestern State University which is located in Natchitoches La.

Horrible, Horrible tragedy.

His albums 'You Dont Mess Around With Jim' and 'I've Got a Name' are two of my all time favorites.

He was AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Jim Croce was an amazingly talented man, and his music is timeless, just as good to listen to now as it was then.

Have any of you heard of his son, AJ? He is an amazing singer/songwriter, although his style is almost nothing like his dad. He started out as a bluesy, Joe Cocker meets Littlefeat type of singer, blew out his voice, and when he got it back it was higher pitched. He now writes in a style similar to The Beatles and Elvis Costello. He just did a re-make of 'Maybe I'm Amazed' on his latest album, Cantos. He's one of my current faves.

I would sure like to purchase some of Jim's sons music. Where can I find it???

I am 90% sure these facts are true.

The last concert that Jim Croce performed was on the campus of Northwestern State University of Louisiana. The concert took place at Prather Areana. It is the areana where the Demons play basketball. Its right next to their athletic fieldhouse about a quarter mile from their football stadium. Ther have been some tremendous football players that played at NSU. These include Jon Stephens, Mark Duper, Gary Reasons, Odessa Turner and I believe John Ferguson.

Anyway, we all know what happened after that concert.

He left us way too soon.

Another thing that was sad was his widow barely got any of his royalties!
He signed a bad contract & his record company managers etc... got most of the money.
I heard in the mid 90's she sued them & finally got some ( real ) money from them..
God old music business.... I wonder if JSS ever got screwed over like that...

You can find AJ Croce's last two CDs, along with an anthology of his earlier stuff (the bluesy stuff) on I-Tunesor Amazon. All of his other stuff is unfortunately out of print. But I did come across some of his older stuff in the used bins for $1.99! It's too bad, because the kid is a real talent. And a kick-a$$ piano player too!

I was 14 or 15 at the time he died. I had just started playing guitar around 14 and didn't have money for an electric so I was into the folk singer/songwriter stuff like Jim Croce and John Denver (OK. Go ahead and laugh!). I remember waking up one morning before school and hearing news that Jim had been killed in a plane crash. I sat in class pretty depressed all day. I thought he was really on a roll and his music was just getting better. "I Gotta Name" was just a great song. Sad, more great talent down the tubes much too soon.
