"Relentless" is the greatest Dave song, with or without VH, this side of "Ain't Talkin' 'Bout Love".

If you look at Van Halen now, rumored to be doing amphitheaters and possibly some arenas with DLR back then yes it seems too late to make that kind of splash.

7 years ago VH rumors had them headlining stadiums.

But Genesis are still headlining stadiums....

Not here...genesis is an arena level tour in the US.

Agree, though the perception is that the Genesis thing is more monsterous than VH.

The only way Genesis would be more monsterous than VH is if Gabriel was singing, plus.....you'd have to invite all the stalker Brits to the show.....lol

I'm not much interested in seeing them without Gabriel.

It's worth it for the double-drum solo alone....

Really? It took them only an hour or two to sell out the biggest stadiums over here... packing in 70-100,000 people a night...

What's the average crowd on a US arena tour?

They do Los Endos now, even without Gabriel....Chester and Phil are masters. Peter never thrilled me. He was too interested in dressing up like flowers, huge bulbous things, and foxes....Genesis started, for me, in '76. Phil was much like SP - taking a band going NOWHERE, and taking them somewhere....But, I guess the Brits would've liked Genesis to stay the underground, cult band that they were. Go figure. They blast Phil, but at least they are still around.

Some Brits would, SM. But I much prefer the Collins era myself and so do most fans....

I did love the 1999 Collins/Gabriel version of Carpet Crawlers though...that got me briefly excited about the possibilities of a full reunion....

A dual drum solo on the Godsmack live dvd is incredible, not much of a fan but a friend showed me part of the dvd. Drum solo was the best thing I saw/heard.

Little different. Peter Gabriel made some MAJOR contributions to the band. That's one band where I like the different eras of both of those singers. I was kind of hoping for that w/Jeff in Journey. But oh well ...

Lots of parallels between Gabriel Genesis and Journey and with Perry. Gabriel was more like the Journey pre Perry. Progressive sound different styles. Collins came into the picture just like Perry and took their respective bands into the mainstream eye.

Genesis stayed in the progressive genre for several albums, though, after Gabriel left the band.

In his case, good goods come in small packages. He still looks fucking awesome for his age. I'd do him in a heartbeat. That hair, oh that hair. He doesn't look girlish like Friga either.

No doubt Shaw can rip the axe and sing his ass off.

But Cain is jacked and would put TommyPint through the floor.

i saw styx when they toured for edge of the century in either 1990 or 1991.damn it i missed tommy shaw because he was with damn yankees then and not styx.tommy shaw gave styx a lot of the hardness.deyoung would have the band singing all ballads if he could.i like dennis but maybe its better that he isn't in styx.i think tommy shaw brings a lot more to styx than dennis deyoung.

Dude, Where were you in '96 and '97 when they got back together and toured? Great show.

I thought this over again. Journey is like a bouncing ball . It had no bounce till '78 to '83. Then again in ' 86. Puff, and not again until '96, and then puff till 2006 and that was very abrupt . Now ,God will have to intervine to stop the destruction.

Re: has the window of opportunity closed on journey?

Postby Aaron » Sat Jul 21, 2007 1:31 pm

I don't think it's too late yet but it's getting very close. A Perry fronted Journey could get out and do something. I also believe that a Chalfant/Hugo/Jeremey fronted Journey could get out and also do well with good new material. I think they all three have good writing skills albeit KC and Hugo have longer track records in writing.

It's pretty sad that Journey doesn't get off their asses and capitalize on The Soprano's last episode hype. The exposure with The Soprano's could have given them real exposure if a new CD was ready to go that was good material. Those type of opportunities don't come around often. If Journey were smart, they'd be cutting a CD now to get out in the market to ride the exposure from The Surpanos. If the shit was good, they could have a chance. The door of opportunity is closing pretty fast.

or is it one of those instances where time has passed them by and attendance would be spotty in certain places?

if they did would steve perry be up to the task of doing the songs justice?
