WOW! I just saw Ian Gillan with Deep Purple a few months ago and he was OUTSTANDING!! I never did see him with Black Sabbath however.

Although I liked the album Born Again, Gillan was horrible live w/ Sabbath. He didnt know the words to Ozzy's and Dio's songs, so he just mumbled them. Stood there most of the show with hs long hair covering his face so he could read lyrics on his stage monitors, and he still screwed up and mumbled the wrong lyrics for most of the show. It was embarrassing.

I've seen Ian Gillan twice with Deep Purple and he was great with them.

LOL -- I love his take on how he "joined" the band (from Wikipedia):

"I had no plans to join Black Sabbath. I went out with Geezer and Tony and we got drunk, and I found out the next day that I agreed to join the band. And they're such nice guys. It was great fun and it paid the bills, I had a lovely year with them and that was it."

I positively love Tesla! :D Saw them back in the day, too, and their show was incredible.

Several years ago, they hit a rough patch there with me and I had vowed to never see them again. I recently saw them at the the Nokia Theatre (got free tickets) and it was as if they had that old fire back again. They were fantastic! They have now redeemed themselves with me.

Several years ago, I recall Styx/REO/Journey going out together. Journey closed each night, while Styx and REO flip-flopped. I saw a handful of these shows, and Styx blew the other two away every time. I even had front row for one of these shows and Styx was still the better act of that night for me. 8)

As for South Bend: I missed most of Goodbye Thrill (so I can't comment), but IMO the highlight was the JSS Band for energy and danceability, Kevin Chalfant for an outstanding vocal performance, and Scrap Metal for an endless list of hits and overwhelming star power.

that is very hard to believe!

Not at all...the current incarnation of Whitesnake is arguably the best incarnation of this band ever. Doug Aldrich does a better John Sykes than Sykes. Reb Beach handles the Vai stuff without the gay over the top crap Vai did back in the day.....

The only kink in Whitesnake's current lineup armor was the fact that they no longer have Marco Mendoza, who was fucking amazing...but if we're talking about 2003, I believe Marco was still in the band then.

You are correct, sir. I saw the tour (which also included Dokken) here in San Diego...won front row tickets and backstage access from my local FM classic rocker, and all three bands were "on" that night.

It's my understanding that Marco is now with the group that calls itself Thin Lizzy, which, given the fact that Phil Lynott has been dead and buried for over two decades, is a complete farce.

;^)

Sorry to dredge this up, but I just came across a cool pic from the concert I mentioned above...me and Coverdale, backstage before the show.

And no, that's NOT all my hair...most of it belongs to some chick who was standing behind us...

All you had to do was hear Tesla's new album into the now and know they were back! Didn't even seem like they were gone..And that's what makes for good chemistry..

I saw Tesla open for DL back in the day in Chicago...and I was a big fan of both bands. While Tesla was excellent, they in no way blew DL off the stage....there was so much emotion for the return of the THUNDER GOD and songs like Sugar, Animal and Hysteria were such big hits at the time..plus you had Steve Clark "throwing shapes" all over the stage. Tesla was good but it was DL's night in Chicago. :)

I remember you from BT.

You seem to come here with a chip on your shoulder. You're not going to be a troublemaker are you? Assimilate dude. This ain't BT.
I like to sit out on the front porch, where the birds can see me, eating a plate of scrambled eggs, just so they know what I'm capable of.

i love def leppard.one of the first cassettes i ever owned was pyromania in march of '83.their videos were all over MTV back then.i think def leppard was the first ever band who were directly promoted through videos.i know they had em for photograph, rock of ages and foolin of that release.when steve clark died in 91 the band just wasn't the same for me.hysteria was the last good thing they released and a great classic and farewell from steve.adrenalize tried to be another hysteria but it just didn't have the goods to me and vivian campbell could never fill steves shoes....
