Thanks! I love this song. First though, I was kind of confused. Neil Schon was in Procul Harem? Man, he gets around.![]()
My personal feeling has always been that Hagar was given short shrift as a singer. Anyone remember "Love Comes Walking In?" Love that song. He certainly gave VH an awesome second act. Something that Journey could have done, if they had carefully chosen their third and last singer or not gone and mucked it up so much that the "source" material wouldn't sing at their funeral much less lead them in a hog calling competition.

HSAS is one of my favorite albums of all time. I remember when it came out, seeing interviews with Sammy and Neal, and the flat out awe Sammy had for Neal's talent -- when asked why he doesn't play guitar in that band, Sammy said it's because Neal is so amazing that when he plays it sounds like a "fucking orchestra." I was already a huge Journey fan by then, but when HSAS came out, it made me realize how great Schon is. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I seem to remember reading that they rehearsed for a couple of weeks, played live for 2 or 3 weeks, then took the recordings in the studio and removed the crowd noise from most of the tracks. None of the parts were recorded in the studio, as far as I know. That makes the album even more amazing.

dude, parts of your life parell mine... but the way i read it was that in the end,, sammy wasnt thrilled with his vocals.. so they rerecorded 7 of them in the studio... then neal decided he would do the same with the guitar .. especially the leads.. none of those live leads on Missing You sound like the albums version... i had understood that the bass and drums are live on every track,,,regardless... its one of my off the wall favorite albums of all time.....that is some tough guitar on that album...

As someone posted somewere else, Schon has never had a bad sideproject.
I say HSAS was his best, followed by Hardline.
