OT: Al Di Meola?

Anybody else love this guy's playing? I'm currently listening to his tune "Wizard" from "Land of the Midnight Sun". Amazing stuff along with most of the rest of his tunes.

Check out his Elegant Gypsy CD. If you like Santana sound mixed with fusion this is the CD for you. Great musicianship

I think Al was one of the first truly FAST guitar players with a rock tone. Up until Yngwie he was probably the fastest most accurate player I'd heard. Elegant Gypsy CD opened my eyes to what truly amazing guitar playing could be like.

By the way, Jan Hammer plays on Elegant Gyspy if you happen to like his sound.

I remember ADM being called one of the fastest guitar players in the world. I wasn't into jazz at all then so really didn't get into his stuff.

Thanks to Smitty I'm getting to know some jazz though. (minus Kenny G though, I cringe at that stuff). :)

I should have said..."I downloaded a few songs from that album quite a while ago." In other words, I already knew the album and loved it.

Try Alan Holdsworth - better technically but the songs are not up to scratch...

I don't remember EVH mentioning Di Meola, though I have heard him mention Allan Holdsworth before.

Love Holdsworth but have to be in the mood for that kind of music. Some of his CD's are better than others. Saw him along time ago in a club in Boston. Holy Shit! I couldn't believe my eyes. He is undoubtably one of the best who ever lived.

I was amazed by Al Dimeola because he picked every note and didn't use hammer ons & pull offs. Amazing accuracy at picking.

I'm not that familiar with Holdsworth's playing but I've heard a few times how excellent his picking technique is. I need to get more of his stuff.

Sorry Dave, I just corrected my post. I meant to say DiMeola picks every note. Holdsworth uses almost all hammer ons & pull offs. The best I've seen at it.

OK...Probably have the two players mixed up. I thought I had heard that about Holdsworth. Thanks for the correction.

Dave,

Here's Holdworth doing some nice chordal playing and some soloing. His soloing almost sounds sax like. His soloing is improvised.

Those are definitely some fingerings you don't see every day. Good stuff, especially on that first one.

Yeah, everyone raves about his soloing but his chordal playing is immense.
