Check out his Elegant Gypsy CD. If you like Santana sound mixed with fusion this is the CD for you. Great musicianship

I've downloaded a few songs from that album. Great stuff.

I think Al was one of the first truly FAST guitar players with a rock tone. Up until Yngwie he was probably the fastest most accurate player I'd heard. Elegant Gypsy CD opened my eyes to what truly amazing guitar playing could be like.
By the way, Jan Hammer plays on Elegant Gyspy if you happen to like his sound.

I should have said..."I downloaded a few songs from that album quite a while ago." In other words, I already knew the album and loved it.

Try Alan Holdsworth - better technically but the songs are not up to scratch...

I'm not that familiar with Holdsworth's playing but I've heard a few times how excellent his picking technique is. I need to get more of his stuff.

Sorry Dave, I just corrected my post. I meant to say DiMeola picks every note. Holdsworth uses almost all hammer ons & pull offs. The best I've seen at it.

OK...Probably have the two players mixed up. I thought I had heard that about Holdsworth. Thanks for the correction.

Here's Holdworth doing some nice chordal playing and some soloing. His soloing almost sounds sax like. His soloing is improvised.![]()

Those are definitely some fingerings you don't see every day. Good stuff, especially on that first one.
