I'll put money on the next Perry release being a compilation of sorts featuring no new material at all. Bets please...

I'm thinking Perry's Greatest hits remastered on DVD in Dolby 7.1 with a laser light show effects that keep time to the music while still photos of his career are displayed in the backround.

I'm not sure I get this obsession among many Journey fans about live performance. I mean...you see a concert for an hour and half...and hear the same songs you've heard a thoudsand times before...and then you go home. Big deal.
For me the album is much more important and if Perry's voice was put through a couple of effects...well, so be it. But you can't fake soul and even if Perry sounds like a rasping old man on forty fags a day his voice will always have that.
So I couldn't care less if Perry can't carry off on an 80--city tour. This isn't some talent contest we're talking about.

The question at hand was whether or not he can still sing at a high level, and I merely pointed out that, for me, I will need to judge him by a live performance. Your answer really doesn't pertain to my question.Albums never change, but concerts are all unique. Whether it's new music, a forgotten oldie, or the guy next to you puking on your shoe, concerts always offer something different with virtually every listen. I've been hard on Journey for the same set list and "click track" because it's taking some of that uniqueness away.Matthew wrote:I mean...you see a concert for an hour and half...and hear the same songs you've heard a thoudsand times before...and then you go home. Big deal.Again, very valid points, but no one is asking for an 80 city tour. I just don't think it's asking too much to perform a new song or two live. That's it. I mean, if you're putting something out that you can't even perform live is that even being an artist? Again, I'm just defending my position as to why it would be important for *me* to hear him sing again.Matthew wrote:For me the album is much more important and if Perry's voice was put through a couple of effects...well, so be it. My question is this.....when do the people that think he will never come out with anything major as far as new music or a tour get to say "I told you so"? They really have to wait until his funeral. And even then it wouldn't surprise me one bit to read a "My brother's ex sister in law works at the funeral home and she overheard someone say that he had a CD completed and it's going to be released posthumously."

Well, I have always said, from Day 1 .... that so long as there's breath, there's hope. That applies to both him and us ... nobody is getting younger. But, you're right, never thought of the posthumously angle
.

Yes - she's totally correct. And my first thought after Perry's funeral would definitely be..."What's in the archive?" It really won't be until my own funeral that I'll be able to let go of hearing new material from the guy.
lol...understood, ma'am.donnaplease wrote:Saint John wrote:Matthew wrote:I'm not sure I get this obsession among many Journey fans about live performance.

Here's the thing for me, Dan...
I'd love to see a live SP performance. AI, tour, it doesn't matter to me (although I'd give nearly AN-Y-THING to see him perform live). However, if he feels that he could not live up to the hype, for whatever reason, I would be ok with just a new album. People are NEVER satisfied by him, they ALWAYS want something more, and if he doesn't live up to it, he gets trashed. I've seen it too many times here.
Then again, the band that this forum is dedicated to has no problem NOT singing live, as we've all been made aware (thanks to Dean and others here and elsewhere). I believe SP has said that if he couldn't do it justice, he wouldn't do it, simply out of respect to the music. Obviously other members of the legacy aren't quite so noble.
Now, as for you, my friend... I know how much of a loon you really are, so cut the crap and quit harassing the Voice!I'll come to Chi-town and hunt your sorry ass down!!!

I'll go to war with what I'm hearing, whether I'm the new guy or not. And whether or not past "sources" have heard different things. I just had a long Thanksgiving day chat with my sister. As I said, I'll go to war with what I've been told. Things change, people and "sources" change.
My day here, and The Voice's day everywhere is coming. The fun it will be to watch the negative, immature, jealous, cynical, bitter people be flat out WRONG, will be spectacular! (You know who you are).
WE'LL SEE. Just wait.
