Enjoy what followed...but these are "Journey" to me. What followed was a "Baby" version of Journey pardon the pun, regardless of their commercial success.

The songs were not cookie cutter. The way the guitar and vocals played off each other were much more complex and entertaining. Having two singers provided depth and variety. The harmonizing was unique as well. The jams were better...listen to Wheel in the Sky. Especially live, Neal is going going off, the rest of the guys are doing their thing...and then you add a little Perry to the mix.

If I were only given one Journey album I could listen to, it would be one of those four, of which I'd have a hard time picking.

i feel pretty much the same way but i would add escape right after captured.after the escape album i liked certain songs but pretty much lost interest.i like pretty much every album front to back from infinity all the way through escape.i think mainly when jon joined the spark was different and they lost that raw edge they had with gregg.things got a little too commercialized for me starting with frontiers.my favorite era would be 1978-1981.

I guess I should add Escape as that was my girlfriend, soon to be fiance, now wife of 22 years', favorite album. We listened to it all the time in college. Completely agree with your comments.

I forgot to mention the 3 pre-Perry albums .... some good songs there, too .... but only the ones that are not predominately instrumental. On a Saturday Night .... love that song!
