The songs were not cookie cutter. The way the guitar and vocals played off each other were much more complex and entertaining. Having two singers provided depth and variety. The harmonizing was unique as well. The jams were better...listen to Wheel in the Sky. Especially live, Neal is going going off, the rest of the guys are doing their thing...and then you add a little Perry to the mix.
If I were only given one Journey album I could listen to, it would be one of those four, of which I'd have a hard time picking.

i feel pretty much the same way but i would add escape right after captured.after the escape album i liked certain songs but pretty much lost interest.i like pretty much every album front to back from infinity all the way through escape.i think mainly when jon joined the spark was different and they lost that raw edge they had with gregg.things got a little too commercialized for me starting with frontiers.my favorite era would be 1978-1981.
