Who Is The Next Great White Hope For Rock?

I was half watching the American Idol finale last night. This is Caleb Johnson's could be coronation song.

It sounds very old school Rock & Roll which is what he wants. But will it sell? It seems to me that certain people are sitting around waiting for a new young white male star to emerge from out of nowhere and be able to bring the youth back to rock and roll. But those same certain people aren't the ones supporting any new music-musicians.

At one point Daughtry was all over the place, he has a new album out now. But have you heard any of his new songs on the radio? I haven't. But it is burning up on the charts on Freegal- just like Bruce Springsteen's. They thought the same thing about David Cook too. I still hear "Light On" on the radio sometimes. But radio didn't support him either. Constantine Maroulis was another one- but he was better suited to Broadway and Rock Of Ages. Then there's Kris Allen who dropped off the face of the earth after "Live Like You're Dying" and Adam Lambert who's going to front Queen. But Adam Lambert's a total star, you may not hear him on the radio all the time, but he gets his name out there a lot. I downloaded a bunch of his solo songs when he was on Glee.

The only rock or rock/punk bands that have any staying power today are No Doubt, Paramore, Fall Out Boy, and Green Day. Do you think Caleb has a shot of bringing rock back?

Has anybody been watching Rising Star? With Josh Groban hosting and Ke$ha, Ludacris, and Brad Paisley as the experts. No.

Not surprised. But this guy, this guy here: Jesse Kinch seems to have IT. He plays a lot of classic rock. Here's the first song that I heard him sing "Whipping Post" by The Allman Brothers Band. I went right over to the computer and downloaded the original  . The finale was last night, it got completely buried by a lackluster, but normal VMAs. It's patently obvious that JK would win since everyone else was hit or miss- being competent singers, yet doing boring renditions or only occasionally showing some flair.

Here's "Seven Nation Army" orginally by Jack White.

I don't watch any of that Starsearch, American Idol bullshit.

Simon Cowell and all his iterations of American Idol have accelerated the decline of the music industry by turning it into a singles market. That's why so few of the contestants have any staying power...

those programs make it easier to simply ditch them for a new "flavor of the week"..

Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.

I don't know if I would blame Simon-American Idol for the downfall of the music industry. AI was still releasing full albums and compliations for it's seasons when it began.

I would blame Itunes for the singles market. Cause why bother buying an entire album when you can just cherry pick the songs you like. I also blame Clear Channel and all the radio stations being owned by one or two groups that only play certain artists and stifle any new people. For all the popularity of The Voice- they haven't had a single hit song or artist. And as much as I like Judith Hill and Jesse Kinch- I don't think that's going to change.

Oh yeah, Fifth Harmony from The X Factor won the fan voted award on the VMAs last night. If that still means anything.
