MESSAGES TO JOURNEY FROM THE FANBASE

Postby EightyRock » Mon Aug 27, 2007 12:55 am

This is a dedicated thread to concisely tell them what each of us thinks about......

1. Another singer
2. Another tour
3. Going "back" to their "legacy sound"
4. Re-recording their hits with another new singer
5. Recording or NOT recording newly created music
6.. Any responsibility to preserve or protect the legacy?
7. Any responsibility to their longtime fanbase?
8. How you view your favorite (or once-favorite) band today

If I've left anything out, add it in. Let's see just how much they care what we think and how much good any of this does.

1. Another singer: You can go two ways as far as I'm concerned - either get JSS back or Perry back. This constant changing of lead singers is horrible for fans.
2. Another tour: I would love another tour with either JSS back or Perry back.
3. Legacy sound: Why not pave new ground instead - with either JSS back or Perry.
4. Re-recording their hits with another singer: Unless you are doing it with JSS - please don't. I implore you to listen to howbad John Payne sounded singing Asia songs like "Don't Cry"
5. Recording new music: Yes! With either JSS or Perry
6. Protecting the legacy: Fuck the "legacy"
7. Responsibility to longtime fanbase: You've already spit in our faces a few times, we MUST be a forgiving bunch because we keep coming back (though in smaller and smaller numbers)
8. View of my favorite band: Pissed off about the constant "limbo" feeling.

I guess that's a pretty concise answer for numbers 1-8! At this point, they could prop a cardboard cutout of him onstage and get more interest and respect than have, after firing singer #3.

To me it's simple. They have no credibility or integrity left now.

If they truly want to go back to the "legacy" sound then they should stop dickering around with these Steve Perry's knockoffs and find a way to put something together with him. "We let Jeff go to bring back Steve Perry" sounds a hell of a lot better than this nonsense they're jacking around with now. With Perry you can at least record an album and do a couple of shows. This can only be a good thing, and Journey would likely have some support from Columbia records, which guards this aspect of the Journey legacy.

I don't mind repeating that anybody who economically supports Journey with a new third "clone" singer is an accessory after the fact to the misbehavior of Friga and Fro and aiding and abetting in the debasement of the Journey name. In any case, I will not support them. They've done absolutely nothing to earn the loyalty of fans in this department. They've screwed us, we can only respond with the like.

So basically, get Steve Perry. Or get Jeff back. There is no third option.

1. Another singer - Since you got rid of an amazing frontman and voice in JSS, you need to do whatever it takes to get Perry back.
2. Another tour - Taking the US off this year was a good idea. Can't go away for much longer though...you aint young and fans forget. Don't lose ALL of what you've built.
3. Going "back" to their "legacy sound" - Since when did you leave it?
4. Re-recording their hits with another new singer - Do it live again for another DVD I guess....but thats it. Do an unplugged or story teller and sell that.
5. Recording or NOT recording newly created music - If you don't keep creating, you aint relevant, and I won't stick around.
6.. Any responsibility to preserve or protect the legacy? - Putting on great shows is protection enough
7. Any responsibility to their longtime fanbase? - No. But if you want to keep the grass-root promo you've built, cut the shit. Rigging polls, organizing huge gatherings at shows, etc. is priceless. I hope you understand that.
8. How you view your favorite (or once-favorite) band today - Need new music ASAP. Its been 2 years with no new music in sight. Are you an active relevant band or not???

If I've left anything out, add it in. Let's see just how much they care what we think and how much good any of this does.

1. No-one can ever beat Perry but to continue on the nostalgia/tribute path like they have for the last ten years this Arnel chap seems a better choice than most.

2. I'd go to another show next year no matter who is singing.

3. They never left their 'legacy sound' behind. It's been one pale imitation of it after another since 1998.

4. They ought to avoid re-recording the hits - unless it's new unplugged/acoustic versions with just Perry and Schon.

5. I can't see how a new album would measure up to the 1978-1996 classics...even if JSS returned to the band. So they ought to let it go....or rather...we ought to let it go because it seems they already have.

6. Journey do promote the legacy. Jonathan Cain was on the radio a couple of days ago doing just that....

7. Journey could show more interest and warmth toward their die-hard fan base but they owe us absolutely nothing.

8. I view Journey as being no different from any other time since they fired Perry. It isn't the real deal without him. Simple as that. The only difference now is that this doesn't get me wound up like it used to and I can go along to the shows and enjoy them whilst knowing I'm watching a second-rate version of a once great band.

You enjoy watching a second rate version of a band and pay good money for that priviledge  There you go with that Cain interview again, that's really excited you hasn't it Matt
Perry could be journey with just a backing band, Journey can't be Journey without Perry. There's only one real solution and they know that...if he wants no part it's simply time to call it a day.
This is the time to throw all their past indifferences in the garbage can and get around the table and talk.....if not they still have the door open for solo projects and all the factions on this board can then follow each individual of their choice.

I hate to say this because Journey has been my fav band for a long, long, time.
Get Perry back ( I know he isn't coming back)

Hang it up.... retire.

I am done.

PS - If ya would have kept JSS AND recorded new music i would have supported you.

Heck, you can get Steve Perry back and if you don't record new music I am still done.

Been there done that.

DSB is played on the Sopranos finale.

That along with the use of the song in Monster, Laguna Beach and the World Series make it obvious that the only sound Journey is ever going to be known for is the Perry fronted sound. That's where the butter for the bread comes from.

Band fires Jeff and closes BT.

Jon does an interview talking about DSB and says they're interested in getting back to their legacy sound.

Rumors start yet again hinting at the possiblity of Steve Perry returning. (Does anybody know where these rumors really come from? Image)

Band starts active search for the closest soundalike they can find.

Jon does a radio interview talking as if Steve is still around.

I think the odds of Perry returning are greater than the odds of Arnel being the new singer. There is definitely some weird shit going on. They didn't can Jeff for Arnel, that's for sure. No fucking way. If they lure(d) Perry back in for one last show, tour, album or any combination of the above, I will take back almost everything I said about them.

Steve's NOT going back to Journey.
The stone has not just be cracked, it's pummelled into dust.

It would literally take a miracle for him to turn around and say, sure... I'll risk my sanity to work with these jerkwads again.
He's too damn smart to do that. And thank GOD.

So... with that. RETIRE NEAL! PLEASE. For CHRISTS SAKE!!!!

I think the fact that by all accounts Irving Azoff and co. are still around shows that there is a possibility of Perry coming back. If he knew with a great degree of certainty that Perry was not coming back I think he'd bail on Journey. He has bigger and better artists to deal with than a has been band auditioning people that aren't even tour tested, professional singers (like JSS was).

I saw Journey last year a couple of times. They were OUTSTANDING! It took me back to the days of seeing them with Steve Perry whom I had seen them with many times. The band had that same magic. It wasn't just a cover of themselves. Different, but that same magic and chemistry. The crowds in California were crazy for them.

APOLOGIZE TO JEFF SCOTT SOTO. This is a mess. He doesn't deserve any of this.

You could have had that magic again and tons of new fans on board with the long time fans.

This is a dedicated thread to concisely tell them what each of us thinks about......

1. Another singer - doesn't really matter, but please remember you're an AMERICAN band.
2. Another tour - tour 'til you drop. Keep playing 'til you're in wheelchairs and you're fingers are gone.
3. Going "back" to their "legacy sound" - all sounds are their legacy.
4. Re-recording their hits with another new singer - no. not worth the effort and cost.
5. Recording or NOT recording newly created music - always experiment with new music.
6.. Any responsibility to preserve or protect the legacy? - preserve, no. protect, yes. always play the dirty dozen.
7. Any responsibility to their longtime fanbase? - please define fan. the general public that keeps buying albums, or a hundred or so online?
8. How you view your favorite (or once-favorite) band today. just looking forward to the next chapter, whatever it is.

If I've left anything out, add it in. Let's see just how much they care what we think and how much good any of this does.

No, it's not. Musically? Maybe. But not with those mediocre (at best) vocals. Uninspired singing on Arrival. Add Perry and THEN you might be correct.

Irving is climbing into bed with LiveNation - he can place his (now) bigger artists in their venues.

LiveNation bought out the House of Blues chain last year - Irving can now place Journey there (without Perry or any other singer anyone has heard of) and guarantee SRO

It's a win/win situation for Irving.

You want to protect Journey's legacy? Your next step needs to include Steve Perry. Do one big farewell tour with Perry singing. You'll make millions. If that's not an option, see if he would agree to one show and a DVD release. Again, millions.

The only other version of the band I would pay to see at this point is if you went out with the formation that was talked about before Perry came back in '96 - with Chalfant and Rolie included. Steve Smith would be fine, but I really like Deen.
