We had a total blast in Dallas. Unfortunately there was a mixup about the afterparty and some of us got separated in the confusion, but it all worked out. I took tons of pictures, and here are just a few. A couple of cool things -- those are actual championship rings that belonged to Muhammad Ali and Evander Holyfield. Greg knows everyone! He currently also works for Nickelback. VERY cool dude. Also, was chatting with this guy after the fight for a while, just shooting the breeze, and we swapped phone numbers. Turned out he was TiLo from Methods of Mayhem w/Tommy Lee! Finally, a couple of strange shots that kinds give an optical illusion like we were standing on air. Funniest looking thing, and I couldn't help but take some pics of that.

The audience was roaring so loud for him, it drowned out his last note. He was a HUGE hit with the crowd.

A lot of people here didn't care for it at all.

You are talking about the real Philippine public, not the pinheads, right?

I'm highlighting the same part Dan did, lol...
Yes, the vast, non-pinhead majority in this country.
No biggie, though: we've bigger issues to mind.

Chubby321 wrote:How about the media coverage? Good? Bad?

I'd say it was matter-of-fact. Even ABS-CBN2, which is
pinhead central, simply stated the NHI's objection,
followed by a brief, wince-inducing video of the last
lines sung by Arnel.

Rip Rokken wrote:He sounded great at the venue, and the crowd went nuts.

I have no doubt it sounded different live, with all
the crowd noise... but he still shanked the last line.

Nothing to do with the topic, but anyways:

Your avatar (Rip Rokken) looks like one of them pictures you see on the news of adult men traveling to Asia to find a Thai boy they can take back home. Looks like you even found yourself someone who speaks your language, Rokken. Makes it all the better when you ask him to "service you". Pesky language barrier.

Remember protection though.

It must suck being a Filipino. I know I shouldn't say this, and maybe I should say The Philippines suck and not it's people....either way, if I was Pineda I would tell them to go fuck themselves, grab my family and move to the US and take all his money with him That place has no right to be that fucking stringent over a national anthem. It's not like it's a nice place to live or anything. I am sure Pineda can afford a nice moderate home here in America that dwarfs any garbage found over in the Philippines. Seriously, I cannot believe this crap. Gunbot called this I believe BEFORE he even sung it; he warned that there would be penalties if Pineda didn't sing it note for note. As for the fine? I would send it all in the equivalent of a penny..send pennies, whatever they are called over there. Send them in boxes and make those douche dicks count it out. 500 bucks for butchering a song? A pretty shitty song at that? Time to call Uhaul up Pinny.

So, perhaps, it is time the National Historical Institute take another look at the National Anthem and contrast it against our realities.

And if only we can muster as much fervor, as much enthusiasm, as much conscientiousness in enforcing our laws on accountability of public officials, on graft and corruption, on presidents lying to us through their teeth, on election cheating, etc., then perhaps, no matter how we sing the National Anthem, we can sing it not only with fervor, but with pride and dignity.

Then, perhaps, we would be willing and happy not to die for our country, but to kill those who make her poor and morally bankrupt.

I'll go with this. :D
There is no middle class there anymore and the upper caste is only about 100,000 strong or so, controlling 90% + of all the wealth of the Philippines. Maybe those numbers have shifted. A good guy can't grow up, get an education and successfully run for office....Joe Nobody doesn't get elected over there. The same corrupt factions continue to put their people in office.

I'm having a problem garnering sympathy within myself over this matter.
In 1987 the U.s government was the second largest employer in the country paying wages well above the national average. Yet Millions of people felt that we should get out of the country as we were crippling the sovereignty of the nation. We left to cheers and applause from the populace as they pushed out their chests and crowed about expelling the Yanks. No thought was given to all the people suddenly left unemployed, all the vendors suddenly left without customers. It was the will of the Philippine people. They were so ecstatic about the guy that was the Spearhead of the coalition to have the U.S. presence removed from the country, they made him president. After we spent billions of dollars realigning our military to compensate for the move, the same man turns around a year later and begs us to come back under a restructured agreement.
Well, how did that all work out for the Republic? You can't just lay the blame on the politicians for that one. It was the people themselves who supported the decision to dismantle one of the largest economic machines in the country. In this case, I think the phrase "You reap what you sow" is totally appropriate.

You've got it a little twisted, 'bot.

Future Philippine President Erap did NOT spearhead the drive not to renew the US basing agreement.
That fucker was a fencesitter on almost every key issue, until he saw where the majority vote was going,
and he could deffo see it in the Senate leadership: Salonga et. al. had been hot for kicking out the
bases since Marcos was president, "US-Marcos Dictatorship" being their key phrase. That said, the Senate
vote on the matter wasn't at all unanimous, and the public reaction to the outcome was just as divided.

I think the Philippines was fucked with or without the US bases, and that US basing was irrelevant
to whether we could unfuck ourselves or not.

Erap was pro-bases as mayor of San Juan, under Marcos.

Marcos gets kicked out, and the POS scrambles for cover,
by adopting one of the key objectives of the Left, who in
turn formed a third of the forces who ousted Marcos. He
even makes a frickin movie to prove his sincerity to his
new friends.

He didn't spearhead shit. He just latched onto something
that he thought could save his Marcos-loving ass.

Now, as to how Filipinos in general FELT aout the bases?
Cory was brought to power by Rightists, Leftists and the
vast Centrist majority. Problem is, centrists are ordinary
folks who have to work for a living. We don't march in
protest uness it's really critical that we do so.

It's those cunts in the Right and the Left with the idle
time to march and wave their placards for CNN, creating
the impression that ALL Pinoys are anti-US or pro-US...
depending on who the newscamera is pointed at.

I'd say the majority were actually sorry to see the bases
go, but happy to be able to flex sovereignty muscles. It
was a pointless workout.

And then you hear about Cory nursing injured NPA operatives in one of her residences in Tarlac. Oh well, what ever hat happens to fit at that particular moment, I suppose.
