The audience was roaring so loud for him, it drowned out his last note. He was a HUGE hit with the crowd.

A lot of people here didn't care for it at all.
You are talking about the real Philippine public, not the pinheads, right?

Nothing to do with the topic, but anyways:
Your avatar (Rip Rokken) looks like one of them pictures you see on the news of adult men traveling to Asia to find a Thai boy they can take back home. Looks like you even found yourself someone who speaks your language, Rokken. Makes it all the better when you ask him to "service you". Pesky language barrier.
Remember protection though.

So, perhaps, it is time the National Historical Institute take another look at the National Anthem and contrast it against our realities.
And if only we can muster as much fervor, as much enthusiasm, as much conscientiousness in enforcing our laws on accountability of public officials, on graft and corruption, on presidents lying to us through their teeth, on election cheating, etc., then perhaps, no matter how we sing the National Anthem, we can sing it not only with fervor, but with pride and dignity.
Then, perhaps, we would be willing and happy not to die for our country, but to kill those who make her poor and morally bankrupt.![]()

I'll go with this.

In 1987 the U.s government was the second largest employer in the country paying wages well above the national average. Yet Millions of people felt that we should get out of the country as we were crippling the sovereignty of the nation. We left to cheers and applause from the populace as they pushed out their chests and crowed about expelling the Yanks. No thought was given to all the people suddenly left unemployed, all the vendors suddenly left without customers. It was the will of the Philippine people. They were so ecstatic about the guy that was the Spearhead of the coalition to have the U.S. presence removed from the country, they made him president. After we spent billions of dollars realigning our military to compensate for the move, the same man turns around a year later and begs us to come back under a restructured agreement.
Well, how did that all work out for the Republic? You can't just lay the blame on the politicians for that one. It was the people themselves who supported the decision to dismantle one of the largest economic machines in the country. In this case, I think the phrase "You reap what you sow" is totally appropriate.

You've got it a little twisted, 'bot.
Future Philippine President Erap did NOT spearhead the drive not to renew the US basing agreement.
That fucker was a fencesitter on almost every key issue. The Senate vote on the matter wasn't at all
unanimous, and the public reaction to the outcome was just as divided.
I think the Philippines was fucked with or without the US bases, and that US basing was irrelevant
to whether we could unfuck ourselves or not, although both pro-bases and anti-bases camps made
loud arguments to the contrary.

Dude, if he was fence sitting, then he is a better actor then I give him credit for. Did you see Sa kuko ng agila? If that wasn't his way of using his celebrity status to flame anti -American/ bases sentiment I don't know what else you could call it.
