Dude,

I'll do what I said I would do ... but I still haven't heard you say the music is better yet. If we do get that far, at least put some Oxy on that thing and wash it up before I start kissin. Any props for not getting a dick shoved up your ass dude.

I agree...They both can kiss my ass.

By the way Aaron, you might not want to kiss my bare ass. I was bumpin around work today, and my ass hurt..I thought, "I was pretty hammered last night, but don't remember any dick being shoved up my ass" so I went into the John......looked at my ass, and saw a giant zit between my cheeks...popped that fucker and sat in a pool of puss for most of the day..

All better now though..

Fair enough, you do cover a wide genre of styles. In my opinion, the metal style fits your voice best. When I hear "Stand Up and Shout" I think holy shit, that vocal is awesome. I'll give some of your other songs a spin again as a quick review though. Perry and Cooke both kick complete ass, we are in agreement there.

JSS wrote:Sorry to barge in but I must correct you...I am not a metal singer, I am merely A singer! I do & have done everything from Motown to Metal in my 22 years of professional singing, damn proud to say I have a wide genre & range to choose from, my comment was as you mentioned, Perry singing Stand Up wouldn't sound very masculine...but my friend, u must open your ears & listen to some of MY catalog & realize I can & have sung Perry's, Sam Cooke's, whatever, genre for many years as it IS my influence,

Dude, turn Journey up a notch, they could use a lot more rocking, not a little. Your voice is throatier than previous singers in Journey. In my opinion, it doesn't fit well with the past catalog and it is not what I expect to hear on Journey material. You've never heard me say that you're not a good singer. To be honest, I think your stage presence and energy on stage is the best I've seen, you rock bro. My son says you've have the coolest moves and I agree. I just don't think your voice fits with what Journey is expected to sound like. But that's only my opinion and opinions are like assholes, everyone has one. The only reason I've been as outspoken as I have is because of Deano's complete 180 on the subject. I still think his opinion was swayed for reasons other than the music. So how many beers did you guys pound anyhow? (j/k)

JSS wrote:I'm not out here turning Journey into a metal band, we're just rocking it up a little more. My voice is more throaty, I'll give u this, but by no means should I be told I don't work for Journey, if that were the case would I REALLY be here right now? Think about it :) Maybe you didn't like Indy, maybe you won't ever like what I bring to the band, but bottom line is 'it is what it is', like it or lump it, I'm here, all the bitching & moaning aint gonna change it...not this tour anyway.

Hey man, no wars here either bro. There's just a lot of energy around this band because they have made such a close connection to a lot of fans. I'm glad you hopped in and voiced your opinion as well. It's cool to see you have the balls to give your perspective on the subject, its much appreciated. We still need to talk about your priorities dude! You should working the chicks before a show, not the keyboard!
JSS wrote:No wars here brother, I know it's all preference & opinions, I should just sit back & watch the comments back & forth but once in a while I like to throw my 2 cents in as well, I mean it is ME youre discussing, ha ha...shit, we're on 20 minutes, gotta run!

Alright man, if you were to pick one cd from your back catalog that would best represent your Journey singing style let me know. I'll buy it and give it few spins to see if I can come around. Believe in Me kicked some serious ass. The vocals weren't as high as Journey but it had the right groove.

Good luck and I hope the show went well.

Yep, I reckon I am hard to convice but I'll have another listen this month to make sure everyone doesn't think I'm a complete closed minded bastard. Give me the weekend to have a listen and thanks for posting the songs.

JEEZ... Aaron, after all the fine samples i've posted especially for you about a month ago (red) you're still calling Jeff a metal singer!
Hard to convince huh?

Take care.

According to the fact you're calling Jeff a metal vocalist I have a suspicion you're not too familiar with the man's music. I suggest you check out his media-section...

EXACTLY.
I've been saying that at least in 5 different posts, but it looks like most Perry-people are either blind or numb.
Anyway , life goes on.
When you all wake up, please pay attention to Mr. Jeff Scott Soto interpretations of classic Journey songs.
His voice is more throaty than Perry's, but, he rocks the hell out of the classics.
For the first time I heard Stone in Love with JSS on vocals and I was happy, I heard something that made my day. It's not only the fact these songs rock big time, but I really liked his voice. I think some songs shape so well around JSS voice.
If only now guys you could tour Europe (Italy please! 8) ... otherwise, I would really love to buy a DVD of this band's version.
I'm not interested at all at seeing the band with Perry today, I would inevitable compare it to the gold Journey version and I would cry tears of pain hearing today's Perry voice...

"Believe in Me" is a step backwards, not forwards.
It's just another cliched summertime feel-good toe tapper in the same labored vein as "To Be Alive Again".
Good song, but I expect something with a little more bite than this.
Even "Faith in the Heartland" was more progressive.

Great post ddregs ! I am a fan of Perry too, but I am also a realist when it comes to his voice ! Perry's voice today will not be like it was back in the 80's..

I had the opportunity to see JSS in concert with Journey, and I agree, JSS's voice is throaty, but to me his voice fits so well with the songs, and he does put on one hell of a show ! It is hard for some fans to let go of a favorite singer, albeit Perry or Augeri, but to totally cut themselves off from the band because it doesn't sound the same, is silly in my book. Things change, life changes. If things stayed the same, the world would be a very boring place !

I hope, ddregs, that you get your wish and have Journey tour Europe so you can see them live. You will not be disappointed !

But TNC - "Faith In The Heartland" owes much to "Pride" by U2....so I'm not sure how forward-looking it was. What do you mean by "progressive"? The fact that "FITH" had a variety of 'sections' or contrasts within the song?

As for "Believe In Me"...I reckon it sounds like a great single...but no...I wouldn't want the entire album to be in the exact same style as this track.

Has JSS recorded anything a bit 'proggy' in the past?

Please tell me you're joking!!! This is more Mark Slaughter or Robert Fleischman than Steve Perry...or even Augeri for that matter. This voice (as it is on this song) is the LAST thing that would work for Journey to reinvent themselves, no soul, no power just high shrieking with little emotion. I actually think Hugo is talented, in the SP wannabe, but come on seriously, they already had 8 years of a singer people thought was Perry with a perm, why go down this road? It would never happen.

I like the song Beginning2End the best and that probably sounds like Journey the most.

I'm interested in hearing from JSS which CD he feels is most like Journey as well. I'll go buy it myself and check it out.

jmo but the last thing journey needs is a sp clone. they need to move forward & put out some NEW music... then add the new stuff to their set list... mix the old with the new. they really need better PR... when was the last time journey did a radio interview/tv/in store? they need to make some noise! }:C) guys you need to reach out to your fans... especially the younger generation. }:C)

I agree Wendy, especially where the younger generation is concerned. It is the younger generation who is now embracing the Classic Rock we love, since alot of them don't like what music, or not music actually, that is available today. :D

You know what the problem is with these songs-they dont make me want to listen to them again yeah some of them show some merit but if i didnt hear them again i wouldnt have missed them but almost all journeys songs including the Augeri's stuff i cant stop listening to because it grabs you. Thats the difference, the spectacular hooks the harmonies its just the whole package its like a hit movie with a slew of great actors as opposed to a b movie. IMO-- theres a huge difference between this and Journey

C'mon, I believe you got a problem. I don't subscribe a single comment , but to say this tune doesn't sound like Journey is criminal at less.
If I close my eyes and listen to this tune, I think I'm listening to Evolution/Departure era.
This sounds more like Journey than Journey themselves in some songs from their new record or even on TBF / ROR.

But then maybe I'm wasting my breath...

Sorry to disappoint you but no joke here. I'm not looking for a Perry clone, just someone that cover the old material in the same key with the same intensity. I disagree with you on every point including soul, power and the vocal emotion. If I was looking for Journey to reinvent themselves I'd just listen to Buck Cherry instead. Journey is a band that's been around for eons and has a reputation to live up to. If they want to reinvent themselves, call the band what it is, Soul SirkUS and get on with it. The bottom line, its Neal's guitar and a killer vocal that gives Journey their heritage. If they really have to reinvent themselves then why would the band ever be called Journey? How about the name WEAREABUNCHOFFUCKSTHATWANTTOBEPOPULARAGAINSOWE'LLREINVENTOURSELFSTOGETSOMEATTENTION. If they wanted to reinvent themselves, they wouldn't be playing the greatest hits for the last 8 years.

Dude, I wrote that comment, not yulog. The music is close but the vocals aren't there. There is a set of vice grips missing from the equation to make this sound like Journey. But I'm with you on the Evolution/Departure comment. Musically its write there (no pun intended :) ).

Please see my comments below in bold:

iLex wrote:http://lexilyn.be/jssmedia/index.html = it sucks, I can sing it better, bottom line.

http://lexilyn.be/mp3/talisman/7/The1Im ... Sample.mp3 = an upbeat groove, good song, nothing like Journey

http://lexilyn.be/mp3/jss/holdingonep/SendHerMyLove.mp3 = Same as before ....

http://lexilyn.be/mp3/retro/talisman/hu ... MyBaby.mp3 = Completely gay, is this Sha na na? Damn!

http://lexilyn.be/mp3/jss/believeinmeep ... OfBlue.mp3 = killer ballad, nice easy groove, sounds nothing like Journey

http://lexilyn.be/mp3/retro/talisman/hu ... ll+All.mp3 = I'm indifferent, music and vocals are not earth shattering

http://lexilyn.be/mp3/rareandunreleased/Wildflower.mp3 = hmm, ... ... shit I fell asleep, is this a song?

http://lexilyn.be/mp3/talisman/truth/frozen.mp3 = Decent groove, good vocals, doesn't give me wood

http://lexilyn.be/mp3/retro/eyes/Somebody2Love.mp3 = Sha na na 2, give me a break, decent vocals but gay music

http://lexilyn.be/mp3/talisman/7/NowhereFastSample.mp3 = Indifferent

http://lexilyn.be/mp3/jss/prism/HoldingOn.mp3 = No wood 2

http://lexilyn.be/mp3/retro/eyes/Cheyenne.mp3 = Goddamn, is this from Trial By Fire? Gay ...

http://lexilyn.be/mp3/soulsirkus/Deen/ComingHome.mp3 = Nice groove, nice tune, doesn't sound like Journey but a damn nice groove

http://lexilyn.be/mp3/jss/lostinthetran ... ng2End.mp3 = Overblown power ballad, good vocals, mix sucks, needs a shitload more guitar with the reverb UP!

http://lexilyn.be/mp3/retro/talisman/hu ... /DOAPS.mp3 = Gay groove, sounds like Santana with a nut missing.

I hope I didn't disappoint you but I've listened to each tune a few times and you've seen my responses above. In case you're wondering what I think rocks, please see the following link:

Fuck if Hugo doesn't completely rock. And .. Adam Holland kicks ass on the axe. Those guys know how to fuckin rock. Journey, take your lessons at the above link!

iLex, please have a listen to Valentine and let me know what you think. If you don't have it I'll mail you a copy in the mail.
