Even if there is any emotion in Yngwie's style at all its one sided I think, very fast, aggressive "I am a virtuoso" -like. No feeling no subtleness, something which his great role model Ritchie Blackmore is a master of.

I won't presume to tell you why you tired of his music but for myself, I tire of it precisely because his playing style is so one sided, altough his talent is massive, that's undeniable.

That makes a lot of sense.

Have you ever heard his "Concerto Suite for Electric Guitar" album? Great stuff and much more melodic than most of his work.

No, that's one I haven't heard. I have the Odyssey album and a greatest hits compilation in my possesion, and I have otherwise heard most of his older stuff, Marching Out for example. I will take a listen if I come across it though, always interesting to hear classic orchestra/rock fusions.

It's the best orchestral/rock fusion I've ever heard. I have similar albums by other artists but this one is the best. Of course, Yngwie's music lends itself much better to doing this because he already has the strong classical influence, but it is great nonetheless. Even my friend's dad, who doesn't care much for rock but loves classical music, loves it.

I remember being a freshman in high school in my first band - We were playing Slayer, Megadeth, Celtic Frost, Mercyful Fate, Exodus, and many others....Anyway, our guitar player was a huge Yngwie fan, and I believe I heard Jeff on the Yngwie records, and didn't even know who that was! Cool that so many years later our "paths" have crossed again!

i used to think it was yngwie singing. then a friend who had the tape told me that a guy named jeff scott soto is doing the vocal. since then that name has floated in & out of my life. he was pretty popular with my metal friends. when i finally got a myspace last april i went looking over on youtube for videos. looking mostly at journey/sp related footage. one day i typed in jeff scott soto & was in awe at what i was seeing & hearing! i went to work & could not stop talking about jss... nobody knew who i was talking about though! i was surprised because i always thought he was well known. i guess just in the metal circle. i remember listening to knac as a kid... when "don't let it end" came on i would sing at the top of my lungs & dance around like a rock star! hehehee! i could hit those notes just like jss... but after i would pass out from lack of oxygen! i still do that today... mostly while listening to journey. my husband thinks i'm a nut! }:CPP he loves when i do LTS... you know what i'm talking about ladies. };C)) i've been wanting to take voice lessons just for the fun of it... maybe one day i will. some dreams never die! i'll always have my bedroom with disco ball & mini stage (aka: small trunk at the foot of the bed). oops... did i just say that out loud? };C))

p.s. was there a video made for "don't let it end"... with jss?

Probably '94 or '95. It was on Axel Rudi Pell's "Between the Walls" album, which came out in '94.

I saw Yngwie Malmsteen in concert back in '85 I believe, here in San Antonio, TX. They played the Sunken Gardens. Talas (with Billy Sheehan) opened up. Actually, there were like 3 other bands... one of them was called Mania. Mania had a singer that could supposedly "break" glass with his voice. He tried it onstage that night, and nothing happened, so he destroyed the glass and table with his FOOT!

JSS was the singer with Yngwie that night (they were supporting RISING FORCE, and MARCHING OUT hadn't come out yet). JSS definitely had a LOT OF HAIR! Yngwie's band sounded pretty good... they were EXTREMELY LOUD. I actually was so blown away by Yngwie's musicianship, than I sat down on my chair and got depressed. I am a guitar player, and watching Yngwie, I knew that I would never get that good. I remember that from that night... but thankfully, it never deterred me from doing my own music!

From what I remember, the show was good, and JSS sounded good. He only sang a few songs.. a great deal of the show was instrumental. He had done 2 or 3 songs on the first RISING FORCE album, so there was not a lot for him to do. But I do remember he was all over the stage, and had a good showmanship that he brought to the table. Yngwie screwed up by losing him!
