IF it did happen... it would be the other way around.

This is what I believe to be happening:
1. Journey website is being redesigned to include Steve Perry
2. Journey is signing with a major label with Steve Perry
3. Journey is taking the year off to write new music and record with Steve Perry
4. Sometime in 2008 you will see a new Journey record with Steve Perry, tour summer of 2008 or 2009 (get tickets early as we all know how these things can go)
I know many many people will not believe any of this will happen, but before you decide for yourself know that Steve Perry has and can still sing, he has been working with vocal coaches and has been much more active in public. Factor that in along with the Sopranos exposure (notice they used Perry's picture) in the press and they did not call him the "former" lead singer of Journey.
Additionally, it is my feeling that this and only this event could have led to JSS's departure. Without Perry in the picture, JSS was the BEST hope for the band and a new direction. I saw them live with JSS and was blown away just as everyone else was. That said, there is no need for a new direction if Perry is to work again.

Perry said something in an interview that should have caught Neal's ear. Where is the money, huge money, and we all know the answer and I'll bet it will be 5-10 shows and if they are smart a DVD. I think Perry will ride the wave of the Sopranos and the Cubs event. 2008 Reunion- for one very small tour . The best laid plans of mice and men, often take a couple years planning. That is a concept Neal & Jon have yet to discover.

Classlessly firing a guy you called a FRIEND only sent a "message" to Steve Perry that these guys are still assholes. Perry knows he's "still the guy." He certainly doesn't need those two ass-clowns to reinforce that by sticking a knife in a friend's back.

Indeed. And I would go on to agree with all that but we all know I express myself better visually.![]()

I just wonder how many would put aside how they feel about the two !@#$%^& right now, to go see something like. Those who are huge Perry fans, yet have sworn of Journey.

I think Perry is acutely aware of the fact that he is considered a legendary voice by so many. I also don't think Perry can sing to the level he once did. He has always been a man of immense pride and perfection. If he were to come back and simply not have it, his legend would be forever tarnished (in his mind). I think it makes much more sense for Perry to sit on the sidelines and cash the checks, while everyone else speculates as to whether or not he should dust the cobwebs off of the vocal chords! This is the first of what will probably be many posts, speculating on Perry coming back to Journey. It will all come to an end as soon as Journey announces their next lead singer of the month!
John from Boston
So what? His voice would still be good John, doesn't have to be the level it once was. Why do people keep predicting his range? it doesn't matter.
mrmusicman73 wrote:For those who don't believe Steve Perry is returning, don't you find it extremely odd that the JSS announcement was timed on the SAME day as the Sopranos esposure news release?
If they knew prior to May 12th that JSS was going to be out, they surely would have made an announcement PRIOR to the Sopranos thing. But what really happened in my estimation is that the Sopranos thing became the catalyst for Perry to re-unite with the band.
So now you ask, "Why haven't they announced this?" The answer is that I would think they would still need to work out the fine details and they want to keep a Perry reunion underwraps. I bet they are just in the stage of "Yes, this is what we want to do." If this is the case, then they owed it to JSS to break it off with him right away. And yes, I am sure JSS is disappointed as anyone would be in his position, but at the same time, I am sure he wouldn't want to be the one that was known for standing in the way of a reunion with Perry. I really doubt that they stabbed JSS in the back as many have suggested. If this were really the case, don't you believe we would see a Van-Hagar/Roth type of press release war? I truly believe that they told JSS as soon as they knew for sure themselves, remember the Sopranos thing only got finalized Thursday June 7th and was only in the works 2-3 weeks prior which would have been right after their last show together.
Another thing you have to consider is the timing is perfect for a reunion with Perry as other previously unlikely reunions have been taking place, look at Genesis and Police as prime examples.
Also look at the bands management, Irving Azoff, he got the Eagles back together and also worked magic, although breifly with Sammy Hagar and Van-Halen, I would have never thought I would EVER see Van-Hagar in concert after what happened with Gary Cherone, but I did and it was great.
I bet they keep this whole thing a secret until they have a new album to release as it would be far more impactful if they did it this way. I am pretty sure that is how they released Trial by Fire, I remember how suprised I was to see a promo commercial on TV with Journey when that was released.
Even though they say they are taking the rest of the year off, I would not be suprised if they get into the studio over the summer or in the fall. Trial by Fire only took a few weeks to record I believe, so you never know.
Another thing to consider here is that although Jon an Neal are GREAT musicians and GREAT musical contributors of ideas, I don't beleive they are the BEST song writers. At least at writing a song from beginning to end on there own. Steve Perry was the one who brought out the BEST in each of the musicians and helped them develop there musical ideas into the timeless classics we now enjoy. Don't believe me, listen to RED 13, the songs on that album sound incomplete, almost like they had a really good idea but didn't know where to take it. With Arrival, they had a lot of creative help to bring out the best in everyone which is why that album worked as well as it did.
If Steve Perry didn't reunite with Journey, then JSS would have been the perfect choice for continuing and closing the chapter on the Perry years. He has the song writing, production and singing skills to bring Journey into a whole new direction and was their only shot SHORT of a Steve Perry reunion to help Journey become relevent once again.
Remember, the band Journey is a business, and as a business you are not going to toss out your best chance for profitable success (JSS) only to continue with a tribute band lead singer, come on people, get real here. Do you honestly think that anyone with a financial interest in Journey would sign off on this? It would be financial suicide for all involved. The reviews and the ticket sales with JSS speak for themselves, the ONLY thing that makes sense for what has been announced is a real Steve Perry album and tour with Journey, end of story.
If I am wrong, lets here from JSS himself to give us his side, bet he won't because he knows the real deal, hence his silence. If not JSS, lets here from any other band member, again we won't because what I am predicting is TRUE. And beleive me, they want this buzz to preclude their new work and release of what the fans have been wanting for years, a Steve Perry reunion. The fans are the bands customers and lifeblood, if given the right opportunity and series of events, I think they truly want to give there customers what they want. Let's thank the Sopranos in advanced for what is to come!
