I know. I think it was Badcotune's kitten.
Hence all the Perry-hate.

It's not a new product, simply taking two items and selling them together, no different than those "two-fer" DVD releases of movies that they package together. I'm sure the timing worked out for Sony with the new record and tour, but really, it's just another (lame) attempt to sell the same shit to people who've already bought it a billion times, while wondering why the CD is dying.
yes, i believe this is the case. it's much more exciting if we twist this into a comic book story of good vs evil though, huh?

Memorex wrote:How is Sony "Smarting"? I don't care for Sony, but they decided that it was not in their best interests to carry on with Journey. Journey reached the same conclusion. At the prices wal-mart is selling the package for, and the % being given to the band, and the money it would have cost them for recording and promotion, I seriously doubt it means anything to Sony. Half a million to them is like a dollar to me and you.
However, if you are a suit in Sony's Legacy division, and you went to school, and you want to keep your job, you look for ways to maximize your artist's catalog. Anytime an artist comes out with a new album, especially an artist with a rich catalog, those past discs sell. And that's with no promotion or price breaks. If you are that Sony suit, and you don't understand the market and put out product accordingly, you're an idiot.
And if you are Neal Schon and Jonathan Cain, I assure you that you sit down with management prior to an album release and look for ways to sell back product at the same time as your new stuff. I would bet more money that Irving had conversations with Sony than any Steve Perry involvement.
Business 101.
I'm curious how Steve Perry would get revenge on them by putting more money in their pocket anyway. I sure wish Steve perry hated me and would get revenge on me. I'd be rich!

Its because they found out he punches kittens.

If you've heard any of the songs off of that almost album you'd know why!!! Yuck...utter shit.

He does NOT punch kittens! (he just has a habit of applying too much downward pressure while petting them)

"You know what his problem is? ...Carpathian kitten loss. He's missed his kitten. We'll just put one in right here next to the castle."
"No! Doctor Venkman, I think should leave. Joyfulness is over!"
"Well, you'll never get your green card with that attitude, pal."

Oh, give me a break!![]()
If you can't see the correlation between this exclusive "fan pack" of a dvd/cd of greatest hits, released on the same day as another highly publicized re-recorded dvd/cd package of the same-- then enjoy the rose colored glasses.
Yes, it's business. That fact was somehow lost on me.
And while he may not be directly "involved", anyone who thinks Perry doesn't care that his legacy of songs were re-recorded and that the package is actually SELLING is also enjoying those rose colored glasses. It would understandably upset any rational human being in the same position.
If the release date was in early June, then it was released before anyone could have known what Revelation would sell. Its not about "Steve is mad and getting revenge". My but you people love to look for drama. How he feels about it has nothig to do with Sony's marketing plan.
Its Sony and its business. Plain and simple. Sony holds the old catalog and why SHOULDN'T they strike while the iron is hot? If the Journey name is buzzing, of course they see an opportunity to push their units just as they would with any other band/music in their arsenal.

That's exactly right, and RETALIAION is a NOUN which means "counteraction, and responsive measure for measure", which is precisely what this package is to the letter. Hello!
If you'd prefer to think this is timely coincidence, then feel free to live in that land. But be sure to give those rose colored glasses a polish every now and then, so you can see the wondrous colors of Oz with greater clarity.

When you're going to emphasize a word by changing the size of its font, you might want to make sure it's spelled correctly, especially when you appear to be calling someone out.
