SONY/PERRY'S REVELATION RETALIATION?

I recall an interview with Herbie years ago talking about how great their catalog was. He was saying that whenever a new album came out, he would go to the record stores and make sure all the previous albums were prominently displayed. It's the perks of having a great history of music in your band. But I guess he was a genius and Sony/Perry are evil.

And yes - Sony is still evil.

Steve Perry hates everyone. He is a vengeful bastard out to CRUSH anyone in his path, including Walmart and Journey. And this year, he has chosen to enlist Sony Legacy in his plot for music world domination by continuing to distribute an album that's been on the market for TWENTY years.

Clearly there's an agenda.

(for those of you with dim bulbs, that was total sarcasm)

Steve Perry, can you please, pretty please wth sugar (or in my case, sweet and low) on top hate me? I'm tired, and frankly need a vacation from all the dogs and houses I've been sitting. Just yesterday, I came this close to moving in with Miss. 41 Parrot lady in exchange for free rent. In a double wide no less. Yes law sir life is hard. If this keeps up, I may no longer have window shades. Miss. Scarlett says they make a nice dress.

It's not a new product, simply taking two items and selling them together, no different than those "two-fer" DVD releases of movies that they package together. I'm sure the timing worked out for Sony with the new record and tour, but really, it's just another (lame) attempt to sell the same shit to people who've already bought it a billion times, while wondering why the CD is dying.

yes, i believe this is the case. it's much more exciting if we twist this into a comic book story of good vs evil though, huh?

ABSOLUTELY! :D

Memorex wrote:How is Sony "Smarting"? I don't care for Sony, but they decided that it was not in their best interests to carry on with Journey. Journey reached the same conclusion. At the prices wal-mart is selling the package for, and the % being given to the band, and the money it would have cost them for recording and promotion, I seriously doubt it means anything to Sony. Half a million to them is like a dollar to me and you.

However, if you are a suit in Sony's Legacy division, and you went to school, and you want to keep your job, you look for ways to maximize your artist's catalog. Anytime an artist comes out with a new album, especially an artist with a rich catalog, those past discs sell. And that's with no promotion or price breaks. If you are that Sony suit, and you don't understand the market and put out product accordingly, you're an idiot.

And if you are Neal Schon and Jonathan Cain, I assure you that you sit down with management prior to an album release and look for ways to sell back product at the same time as your new stuff. I would bet more money that Irving had conversations with Sony than any Steve Perry involvement.

Business 101.

I'm curious how Steve Perry would get revenge on them by putting more money in their pocket anyway. I sure wish Steve perry hated me and would get revenge on me. I'd be rich!

Case in point, when Rick put Higher Place up on Youtube, Sony could have had it pulled but the didn't. They offered a compromise. LET US SEE HOW MANY HITS THE VIDEO GETS AND RUN A LITTLE ADVERTISING AND YOU CAN KEEP THE VIDEO UP UNTIL WE CHANGE OUR MINDS. Sony is going to do what ever it take to move that back catalog. Oh, and if Steve had so much pull with them, how come his album Against the Wall wasn't green lighted when Sony took over Columbia. Perry is a great singer but don't give him that much credit.

Edited because I spell like SW2

Oh well, sure, if you want to demonsterize him. And I suppose when he skins and eats them on kitten-kabobs, you would say "he opens his mouth too wide when giving them kisses"?

That man is a menace. Look at all the havoc he creates by not doing or saying a damn thing and staying out of peoples' way. Imagine if he came back to the spotlight! The earth would fucking implode.

Oh, give me a break!

If you can't see the correlation between this exclusive "fan pack" of a dvd/cd of greatest hits, released on the same day as another highly publicized re-recorded dvd/cd package of the same-- then enjoy the rose colored glasses.

Yes, it's business. That fact was somehow lost on me.

And while he may not be directly "involved", anyone who thinks Perry doesn't care that his legacy of songs were re-recorded and that the package is actually SELLING is also enjoying those rose colored glasses. It would understandably upset any rational human being in the same position.

If the release date was in early June, then it was released before anyone could have known what Revelation would sell. Its not about "Steve is mad and getting revenge". My but you people love to look for drama. How he feels about it has nothig to do with Sony's marketing plan.

Its Sony and its business. Plain and simple. Sony holds the old catalog and why SHOULDN'T they strike while the iron is hot? If the Journey name is buzzing, of course they see an opportunity to push their units just as they would with any other band/music in their arsenal.

Oooooooooooooo, we must see the conspiracy, oooooooooooooooooo, evil Perry getting even!   I am joking around, but please, I agree it is just a way to sell CD's folks! He probably is just minding his own buisness, and you see invisible conspiracies at large. This is how dumb rumors get started!

That's exactly right, and RETALIAION is a NOUN which means "counteraction, and responsive measure for measure", which is precisely what this package is to the letter. Hello!

If you'd prefer to think this is timely coincidence, then feel free to live in that land. But be sure to give those rose colored glasses a polish every now and then, so you can see the wondrous colors of Oz with greater clarity.

When you're going to emphasize a word by changing the size of its font, you might want to make sure it's spelled correctly, especially when you appear to be calling someone out.

It's not retaliation, it's smart business. Put the stuff out while people are hot on their music. It's not going to reduce the sales of the new stuff. Not enough to matter anyway.

There's no Perry hate. You guys just plug in whatever you want, and then argue it. Amazing! I don't care enough about Perry to hate him. I used to be a tremendous fan, but then he disappeared for a decade....came back for two seconds... then disappeared for another decade. He's been gone over twice as long as he was ever even in the band! He basically worked for 10 years in JRNY and then retired. Good for him.
