Hey Mike, it was so great hanging out with you, Ann & Deano (missed you Lula) last night. Melissa was her usual amazing self, signing autographs for over 350 fan club members and doing her part to shine a light on the fight against cancer. The event was held at the Hard Rock Cafe at Universal City and was the launch of Pinktober, as October is breast cancer awareness month. We had a blast, even in the 100+ degree heat.

Check out Melissa's Pink Page for breast cancer awareness info.

Thanks for the Pink message! My mom is a survivor of a radical masectomy, breast cancer is a silent killer. It is nice to see people who try and bring awareness to these causes.

Pretty annoying all the replies dealing with issues other than the show, the MR folks that were there, the cause in which she appeared for, and anything to do with Christmas. If people have other thoughts, let's start a topic called "Ignorant people post here" and keep this one for the spirit in which it was intended.

Melissa Etheridge is a true artist, weaving her talent through a career full of inspiring and moving music and action. This is a high class lady with years of integrity and openness. Maybe she is not the cup of tea for some, but at least show her the respect of someone that has given far more than many “singers” out there.

I had a good time up there and enjoyed saying hello to her and hearing her sing a few songs that I enjoy and seeing some great friends. I also had surgery to remove a lump that had some A-Typical cells and the cause we were there for is a good one. It may be the single biggest killer that can be prevented by better awareness.

Wish I could have pulled you away from the check-in table to come have drinks with us. It was hot! Melissa's comments about releasing a Chirstmas CD on a 106 degree day were funny. She was on the radio recently saying how they had the studio all decorated for Christmas to help her with the mood. Funny.

By the way, you made Ann's night, if not year, with your comments about her at the end. She was pretty happy.

I had much of my small intestine removed a few years ago due to a pancreas problem. The best thing about that (outside of the fact that I am alive) is that I can drink, get drunk very fast, and sober up fairly quickly. I commented to my wife that last night was the longest I had stayed drunk in years. I'm not a big drinker anyway. I can get a full buzz with half glass of wine and then maintain it through sips. Then be sober in 20 minutes. It's wild.

Last night, I had 2 large beers and 3 OJ and Vodka. The 3 drinks were in rapid fashion - as we said, it was frickin hot. I was drunk until I went to sleep. So kinda cool.

My friends are extremely jealous. It's the positive I have to take away from such a negative experience.

Getting a few PM's from folks about things said in this thread. All I'll say is that I tend to look at people differently. If someone made fun of George Michael right now, I would laugh. Say whatever you want - he strikes me as out there. But Melissa is truly an artist with so much good in her heart. The biggest problem I have with the fan base is that more heterosexuals are not involved because they seem to have pegged her as a "type" of singer. I think her audience, based on her talent, should be more full of all types of individuals. I know people that simply will not listen to her based on her sexual preference. That is absurd to me.

For me, her "Skin" album epitomizes what I am saying. That album moves me. I lived with that disc for a year and felt all of it. I didn’t have to stop and think that she was speaking of someone that is the same sex as here. Her words are meaningful period, not just meaningful to some.

Add in the fact that she has done incredible charitable work, is very giving to her fans, and puts herself out there in a vulnerable way on stage every night and I think she deserves the respect of us all. Because she isn't one that has to lip-sync or steal songs or fake her way through a tour. She has some serious singing and writing ability.

By the way, I do not in any way judge her talent based on the fact that she survived cancer. I judge her character on the way she had to publically deal with that illness and how she did not let it define her. I’m sure she had her private moments, but I have been inspired how she always lets people know how great she feels. She never played the “feel sorry for me” card.

You are so right, Dan. Melissa is one of the most giving, caring, kind, honest and positive people I have ever been around. I love her music, her message, her talent and her spirit. If a few homophobes can't relate, that's their loss.

I'm very sorry man... I certainly should have known better than to reply to that bullshit, but it came up and quite frankly it pissed me off and was offensive, not only in general but especially as an unnecessary slam when this thread was about something else altogether, so I replied. But you're right... it was a great and important cause, one I support when and where ever I can, and that's what this thread should keep talking about. Sorry again.

That's sort of fucked up Tito. I don't care for her music but what ever else she does doesn't effect me so why even worry about it.
