NP: Jaded Heart ~ Dokken

Love that song, inspired chorus And Dokken is one of the best singers in my book.

Back not long after I started learning to play guitar, I rewrote the lyrics to that song. Basically just changed a few of the words around and added another verse. I never did play it, though. It's my favorite Dokken tune.

Cool that you have that kind of skill I actually tried to learn the guitar as a teenager, but my patience to learn wasn't there. So I will remain the master of the recorder which I played for 11 years. I know, probably the least heavy instrument on the planet

Yes no one can doubt Bonnet's skills either. However, he has always been my least favourite of the four Rainbow singers. I much prefer Turner or Dio. I saw the video of "Since You've Been Gone" and it struck me how much Bonnet really looked like Jim Carrey, at least from a distance

I was never actually that good at playing guitar and haven't played now in years, so I wouldn't say I had any real skill there.

Have you heard RJD's vocals on two of the tracks from Kerry Livgren's first solo album "Seeds of Change"? Those are just as good as his performance on "Stargazer", in my opinion.

I totally agree! His singing is simply off the charts I especially enjoy the way he holds that powerful "faaaar!" in the choruses. Incredible.

When he wrote the songs, he thought of whose voice would be perfect for each song and picked RJD to sing those two. He was right on because Dio's voice is perfect for those tunes. Steve Walsh also sings one song on the album, along with David Pack of Ambrosia, and a few others. Livgren even sings vocals on one tune himself, which I believe is the only song in his career that he has sung lead vocals on.

Anyway, it's a pretty good album, much better than most of Livgren's non-Kansas material.

He mentions in the liner notes that Dio had just begun singing for Black Sabbath at the time he was getting ready to record the album. He also says that Dio "was no Satanist". In fact, he says that he believed God blessed those recording sessions and even mentioned that Barriemore Barlow (Jethro Tull), who was not a Christian, said he felt God was using him on this album.

Yeah, I love the post-Criss stuff. "Handful of Rain" is the first album recorded after that tragic event and Alex Skolnick (Testement) was the guitarist for that album and tour. "Dead Winter Dead" is my favorite Savatage album and was released a year later. Criss was a great and very underrated guitarist but, for the most part, the Savatage material after he died is my favorite Savatage era.

Savatage were really nice guys as well....

I was touring Japan with my KISS Tribute Band 'Dressed To Kill' in 1996 and one night we hit a small bar. There was a stage there and when we got up to jam the guys from Savatage walked into the bar (having played locally that night) and joined us onstage for some rock classics (Queen/Zep/KISS etc)...

Great guys to share a beer or five with!
