His past problems with alcohol are pretty well chronicled. ROR, just by appearance and performance (screaming needlessly on stage between songs, singing the older songs at an unbelievable pace to stay in key and cracking at the end of some of the bootlegs I've heard), seemed to indicate a guy going through some pretty terrible times (and I can understand why) and not really taking good care of himself. And then there's the Bill Graham tribute. What a fucking mess.

It's just another example of the guy being a mess. He was in such a state that he needed the words to Faithfully written down. That doesn't exactly paint the picture of a guy that has his shit together and is taking care of himself. Just watch the video. It speaks for itself. The guy's blasted.

There were still a lot of good, quality ROR shows, but there were also a lot of stinkers. :isten to some of the pre-ROR material and it's barely listenable.

Then you obviously don't know a damn thing about gospel/r&b music. Not faulting you for that, but if that's your argument it's not valid. There's countless recordings by r&b and gospel singers that'll prove you wrong. (By stage antics, I'm assuming you mean the stomping around like he's in Anthrax, while somber music is playing).
