Isn't the diaphragm still slightly used while singing in head voice, as opposed to falsetto where it's not used at all, hence the complete lack of power and loss of the richer tone in that register.

Well you have to push air to even sing in falsetto, so the diaphragm is used to whatever extent to push that air.

Don't get me wrong, I think Hugo is a great singer when I listen to him singing with Valentine.

Out of all the legitimate Journey tribute singers I've heard, I think Hugo is by far the worst.

Nobody ever said squat about Brian Johnson....they've done vocal comparisons, and their voices are almost 100% matching.

His replacement was seamless......Granted, he doesn't look like Scott, but still.....

Diaphragmatic breathing has nothing to do w/the register ur singing in. U should ALWAYS be breathing from the diaphragm. The register or voice has to do w/the adduction of the cords, the use of air & where the sound resonates. I think a lot of people get this mixed up. They assume that if ur singing in chest voice, u must be breathing in the chest (ie diaphragm) whereas if ur singing in head voice, u must be breathing through ur nose?????

Here's an article from that same site about diaphragmatic breathing that might help u understand this:

http://www.vocalist.org.uk/breathing_exercises.html

Falsetto is a breathy artificial sound when men use it which sounds like a woman's voice (eg Bee Gees). The cords vibrate but they dont fully adduct (close). Breathing is even more important in falsetto than in any other voice.

I don't particularly care for him singing Journey either, but I do like him a lot on other material. He does have a soft voice, but I like it. Similar to SA, I was dissatisfied with Arrival because his volume was too low. They could have done more with the volume to enhance his voice. He deserved that.

Here is a big ole' fucking news flash for you.

There is plenty happening in the world right now that can make any intelligent woman pissy.

When a strong woman stands up for what she believes (and it does not include kissing your ass) some people always say "must be that time of the month"

When a man speaks out, he gets "yo bro - tell it like it is" "I got your back" "chillin' a cold one for you"

Stop it.

So basically, you're saying that a man should keep his mouth shut if it's a female the one who calls him "ignorant" and "stupid"? Thumbs up to you too.

No I'm not comparing Marcel to Brian. Just suggesting u read Marcel's blog. One is a bass player, the other a guitar player. Why would u even ask that? I just think u should read Marcel's blog since u asked about Journey having already chosen a replacement singer.

Sorry but ur comment about "time of the month" points sicko right in ur face. As Brian May said "own ur own poo".

Marcel and Jeff met many years ago working for another amazing egocentric guitarist Yngwie J. Malmsteen.

It would be great to find a clip of Gates of Babylon from Yngwie's tribute album. JSS was something else. I AM A VIKING.

Fame level? No they dont have the same fame level internationally. The reason that "went over my head" was b/c it wasnt clear in ur post. Sorry I dont read minds, just words.

Is he an authority to tell about this? Yes. He was w/Jeff when it happened & experienced much of it.

I already said I wouldn't even attempt to sing Journey songs. What a stupid comeback!

If your opinion is that he's not right for the band, that's OK.

You took the guy's performance on a VERY difficult song (that your average Joe would NEVER sing like this) and tore it apart. The guy's not perfect by any means, but he's VERY GOOD.

If you think that chick's performance is better than his, that's YOUR opinion (which I DO NOT share). Besides, SW is a walk in the park, compared to MF. But I guess you already knew that, having perfect pitch.

The origin of this thread is giving another option for the band. And yes, I do think this guy could do the job, with proper training and such.

Must be that time of the month for you.

Ok u win on this point. Ur right as to when I said that. I did say "ignorant people like u who think it's ok for u to give ur opinion". For the record, ur attacks on me prior to that point justified that. It is ignorant to be rude to someone w/an opinion that doesnt perfectly agree w/urs.

Look up the definition of ignorant:

http://wordnet.princeton.edu/perl/webwn?s=ignorant

S: (adj) ignorant, unknowledgeable, unknowing, unwitting (unaware because of a lack of relevant information or knowledge) "he was completely ignorant of the circumstances"; "an unknowledgeable assistant"; "his rudeness was unwitting"

U were rude to me, just b/c I constructively critiqued the singer u like. Ur rudeness was unwitting. So my comment was deserved.

Now please stop this. If ur singer reads this, he will be embarassed to have u as a fan.

I couldn't agree more. Jeff worked so hard to get the right vocal sound for Journey, after he saved their dying asses last July, and they repay him like that. That's just incredible. I'll be pissed for a long time over that.
