For so many years there has been an ongoing battle to slow down the teen pregnancy rate; what the hell is going on here? we now have the GOP using it and a practically unknown female Gov. to try and win an election. It should be an insult to every female, that these crazy people would attempt to use a woman and her young daughter in such a manner just to get votes. The fact that this woman would sale out her child to the wolves, just to gain fifteen minutes of fame and set off a new wave of teenage parenting in this country at a time when we can least afford it emotionally, mentally and financially. What is this saying to our children? I would now rather sit on my vote than give it to a group of people who would stoop that low to get votes. :x :x :x

What the hell are you talking about? If you think the republicans WANTED this news to get out now you are out of your mind.

They are not using Sarah Palin or her daughter.

Obama was very much in the right and showed a ton of class when he said that it is a non issue and they should be left out of the political fray.

Now I know it won't stop the more rabid of the Democrat bloggers, and hasn't, but the kid (both the 17 year old and the coming baby) should be off limits politically.

As for the Republicans using this as political points that is a ludicrious assertion.

+1

Sorry I will go back and edit to add the baby as well! LOL
You, want to know what the hell I'm talking about? come and hold my hand while I am crying my heart out while holding a pregnant teens hand who's crying her heart out because unlike this fairytale that is going on at the moment, She doesn't have anyone standing behind her Not Mama, daddy, or the so called baby daddy(Who most likely uses the same line I've heard over and over again. want to take a guess at what that might be my friend) as a nurse i've heard it all and seen more. The average teen mother is uninformed, unaware, and unemployed unable to be a good mother on her own thus having to relie on the taxpayers for everything from food, medical care and housing. Now ask me again what the hell i am talking about, a signal is signal and to me this saying teen pregnancy is ok, if you just marry the boy, not gonna happen that easily in the real world my friend, a teenage boy barely knows himself leastwise how to be a father and a good provider.

Unless you were otherwise raped or coerced by strong means, threats etc, being a teen mother is a choice. That said, I don't believe marrying the daddy is a cure-all,, and if she were my daughter I would not encourage her to do that. If she so chose, I would encourage adoption as I think 17 is too young to throw your life away for a single mistake. However, if she wanted to keep it I would support her best I could, and make damn sure she completes her education beyond HS. I would not howver want her to get an abortion as I believe it to be murder.

Not saying the Baby is bad, but the circumstances, her being so young when she should be preparing for her first college dorm room is bad. My mother was 18 when she had me and she was shamed into marrying someone she shouldn't of just because of a matter of DNA. What I'm saying is every little wrong turns grows into a Cancer that spreads out of control.

Well I sure am glad my mom, who was merely a year older than that, didn't look at having me and marrying my dad so young as throwing her life away. They were married for 26 years and would still be married had he not passed away 14 years ago at the age of 46. Made her glad they had their kids so young, since we were grown when he died. You never know what life will throw at you and not every event can be looked at as "throwing your life away". The advantage to this girl is that her family has money so she will get to finish her education and maybe even college and probably won't have to worry much about care for her baby. Not every outcome is the same or a "cancer" either.

Uhm, I was talking specifically about my family situation. Not saying keeping the child is a cancer, but baring a child early impacts your life in a huge way. Add on top of it marrying just to keep teh family peace, that's just WRONG! I'm sorry, but it is, and unless you have been a child of that you can't understand.

I was not condemning all young marriages, but there are some families taht shouldn't stay together, and mine was one of them. There is a difference between a good family situation and a poor one. If you marry simply for the sake of marrying, particularly to someone who is abusive and only cares about themselves, then the children suffer. They do.

If that had been a Democratic candidate's kid with one in the oven, the conservatives would be screeching about how that's what happens when liberals raise their kids with liberal views.

I'm sick of the self-righteous conservative politicians and evangelicals talking out of one side of their mouths and then doing all the same shit that the liberals are accused of doing. Let's see....soliciting money in the name of religion, then using it for their own gain.....CHECK. Setting themselves up secretly with hookers....CHECK. Crusading for abstinence instead of sex ed in the schools, but your daughter gets knocked up anyway.....CHECK. My guess is nomatter how the daughter really feels about either getting married or having the kid, her Mother will instruct her on what she MUST do. Too bad a pack of birth control pills weren't available to this kid when she needed them. Palin is a dumbass. Talking abstinence in classrooms with raging teenage hormones is stupidity. It may work for maybe 5% of kids, but what about the rest? Maybe Hillary could give her a couple tips on raising a daughter.

How do you know what birth control she had available or what she used? NOTHING but abstinence is 100% anyway. Even the pill is no guarantee. I have a friend who had a pill baby. It has nothing to do with how she was raised as to why she chose to have sex with her boyfriend. Does no one remember what it was like to be that age, be in love, and have hormones? I just can't believe the self righteousness of people. It was a choice she made, one she will pay for, and it may be good or bad in the future for her but that's her business. So are all parents to blame for every poor choice their child makes? Gee, I hope not or I might get accused of bad parenting someday.

I believe the pill is close to 99 percent when taken as directed. There are certain medications like antibiotics that decrease the pill's effectiveness. In those situations they suggest that you use a secondary form of BC like a condom.

My friend did not take any medication. She was one of the 1%. Anyone can be one of the 1% that's why nothing is 100% but abstinence. And parents can preach all they want to their kids, and they are right to teach abstinence, but it doesn't mean they will listen. It doesn't matter if your mom is the governor of alaska, the first lady, or she works at the local grocery store. Teens have their own minds and they don't always think through with consequences. It has nothing to do with parenting.

I would like to add too, that you brought up Hilary could give her some lessons. Well I think Bill gave their daughter some good sex education lessons when she was a teen. Oh but wait, BJ's aren't sex, right?

Actually the pill is between 92-99% effective, and only when taken correctly. Missing just one day can present a risk of getting pregnant for up to 2 weeks later. (I've given this speech to plenty of teenagers, both girls & boys, lol). I've seen more than a few get pregnant this way.

I swear to God I never once said that. I know it has nothing to do with parenting, not completely. However, the right encouragement can go a long way. Kids make life changing decisions every day, with facts or not.

I know with my mother, if she had been encouraged to use her God given talents better, and god was she talented, top of her class, the whole bit. Things would have been different in that A. she might have not fallen prey to a bozo or B. after the Bozo, she would have dropped him like a bad habbit.

Again, that;s why I would NEVER encourage my child to marry for the sake of marriage. When I marry I'm going to marry right and I'll be damned if I saddle my kid with a Bozo. The future cost is too high.

It was your "hilary could give her some tips on parenting" comment that made me feel that you WERE saying that. And you can encourage your kids all you want, but that doesnt' mean they will make the right choice. At that age their whole reasoning part of their brain isn't even developed yet, so they are likely to make lots of bad choices independent of what they were taught at home. Some choices will have worse consequences than others and all we can do is hope we did the best we can. There are no guarantees with kids. Some of the best parents in the world have kids who make mistakes. It's called being human. There are plenty of adults who make the same mistakes. And how do you know they are encouraging her to marry? Do you know them? Maybe she WANTS to marry him. My dad was a wonderful dad and they weren't forced to marry so young. Every situation is unique and no one has a right to judge unless they know all the facts.

Yep, used to interrupt the normal hormone process that takes place at the very beginning of a pregnancy.

We of course don't tell all the teenagers we see these things to support them going out and having sex, must sound that way, lol. We only do so with the parent's permission of course, and of course always also tell them abstinence from all types of sex is the only 100% effective way to prevent pregnancy and STD's.

Well I would not be comfortable with my daughter using the morning after pill as a type of birth control. Some of us believe that is a form of abortion. And my friend did not miss a pill, she fit in the percent of people who aren't protected by the pill even when she took it right. So she didn't know it failed until she took a pregnancy test later. Then that would have been a choice for abortion at that point. She was a married adult but this can happen to ANYONE.

The Politico has received an opposition research file from the Alaska Democrats. You can read it in PDF here.

In the file, the Democrats have released Sarah Palin's social security number minus the last four digits. Also tied to the information are her various home addresses.

Back in 2005, Democrats used Michael Steele's social security number to get his credit record.

It is atrocious that the Democrats would not only seek out Sarah Palin's social security number, but release it in opposition research to the press.

We need to know who did this. We also need to know what happened. We also need to know if it was used to bolster the Democrats' opposition research.

Except when you're raped, right? Granted the chances of pregnancy by rape are small, but this girl is happy that the morning after pill exists. Seeing that a child can't develop unless the egg is lodged in the uterine wall and that's all the morning after pill does is prevent implantation it's in no way an abortion any more than regular bc.

Not saying this is the right choice for everyone, but I am glad that BC and teh morning after pill is widely available. The morning after pill btw is only effective within teh first 24-48 hours after unprotected sex. Hardly enough time for a fully formed baby to develop.

This is not to be confused with the RU486 or teh Abortion pill which is taken much later and yes, I believe is a form of murder.

Just to reiterrate. I am a proud conservative. I support John McCain and Palin. I can't wait to vote. I think her family, her business. I am sure her daughter and child will get along fantastically. I wish them the best.

But no, I would never support abolishing BC nor teh morning after pill. They should be freely available. Lots of people don;t even bother with protection anyway, so how is that the facts of life and information on bc methods encourages teen sex?

I agree with Dick Morris on this one and I don't typically agree with him. The libs are scared to death that Palin could be the VP and is the antithesis of everything they've said a woman in politics should be, i.e., liberal, pro-life, etc.

Either way if the chance of pregnancy is there, which it would be if it were unprotected sex whether it was consentual or not, the actual process of how using birth control pills as a way to interrupt the hormone process would still be the same. And yes within 24-48 hours (which yes I do know is not time for a fully formed baby, babies are my specialty  ). I asked my husband if these pills are offered to rape victims, since he's worked plenty of rape cases unfortunately, but he doesn't know, he only deals with the forensics.
