I agree. Arnel is very close to realizing his full potential and if he continues to progress as he has over the last few months he could really help them recpature some of their fame of yesteryear. If they keep supporting Revelation on the current tour they way they have been it should be double platinum by year's end. That's quite an accomplishment, especially considering that sales have been strong worldwide, also. They're taking their new music to all ends of the earth and I have a feeling it's gonna pay huge dividends with their next release. I expect a simultaneous worldwide release with their next effort so they can maximize sales and limit pirating. If they do it right they could see monstrous sales...relatively speaking.

I disagree.
IMO, he's barely hitting 75% of all that he could do, unless we restrict assessment to covering old Perry songs.
If Neal and Jon ever find the stones to write new material specifically for Arnel's and Deen's strengths,
then we'll see the whole band truly reborn, and Arnel really shine.

Again, major kudos to Arnel for working to improve his performances, and to Neal, Jon, Ross and Deen
for freshening up how they play the classics, live.

They've been very smart in that they're targeting large Asian populations with their tour stops. The next album should sell incredibly well because of this. Summer of 2010 will probably see a full scale tour in support of that effort. The future is very bright again for the first time since 1983.

I actually MySpaced the promoter of these shows Tom Moffatt and told him he could probably do a one shot stadium show with Journey/Heart and possibly someone else later on this summer...

It's really nice to see the excitement over the concerts and more being added and the sellouts. And I agree with your statement above, Tom. Arnel starting out this tour compared to his first shows last year, the difference is night and day. He's so much more confident and the band has such an energy about them and it shows in their setlist and the changes to songs which allows Neal to really shine, and Arnel is really knocking it out of the ballpark. I'm happy for them and can't wait to see what this year brings. 8)

I just saw the Honolulu SW.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MWAPtXb6 ... re=related
Check out @ 5:42

"And if he ever hurts you, true love won't deeeeeeee-sert ya ya you...!" Damn, I like this new spin they are doing to the DD's! So much power on Arnel's voice (tuned down or not).
Wondering if Arnel does this adlib or was it suggested by Jon, Neal et al?

Edit: I really like this one, because it's close enough and quiet enough that you can hear the interaction between Jonathan and Neal in the prelude to the song. The acoustics echo Neal's guitar in a very impressive manner.
Man they lowered that song a bit.
Yep the whole concert was a half step flat

Neal does his intro...the crowd is going nuts...then Arnel runs out as they go into NWA and it's total pandemonium...awesome.

is that good or bad?
i mean a lot of people here, including myself was predicting that pineda's voice would soon be toast.
i guess the band is addressing that.

its all relative.
you may see it bad or you may see it as a good thing.

I guess the question would be, if they had did this a few years ago, would S.A. still be singing for the band? It may not have made a difference but maybe the lipsyncing wouldn't have happened. We'll never know.

I think it would have made a big difference night after night.id like to see if they tune back up to the orginal keys,i doubt they will do that now, they wont admit to anything anyway, Its just good to know the truth,if they can save his voice by lowering they key,so be it,I thought it should be known,I wasnt the first.

just saw a clip of WDILYL - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uuf4Hb57nLI&feature=channel
i was wondering how this piece is doing on a LIVE audience?
anyone seen/heard this one Live?

its a rocker that has the riffs and progression like SW.
does it have what it takes to become DSB?
i think journey has to "sell" it more to the listeners like what they have done with SW and DSB.

or is it the lead singers' job to "sell" a song for a crowd to love it?

This is my favorite song on Rev ... saw them do it live a couple of times last year ... audience was about the same as they were with all the new material ... polite.

This may change as we roll into the second year after the album's release and given that it seems like they are doing something different with live shows beyond phoning in the DD and tossing in a couple of new tunes.

I thought it sounded lower. Honestly, I think it's about time they started tuning down for live performances. I'd like Arnel's voice to last at least another two years. LOL
