I'm sure the $10 pricetag helped these numbers...were it $19.99 or something it would not have had that strong an opening week...

Dang, the band gives people a major deal and they get slammed for it? I don't understand that at all.
It was a great package (production values aside for the hardcore audio files out there). It's a decent disc of a great show.

You had to know that someone would come in here and post that couldn't stand that Journey is doing fantastic.

Well no offence to Pelata or anything- but it just seems to me that the band cannot win no matter what they do. How frustrating that must be for them. Granted, nobody's gonna like everything...
I wish that more dvds and cds were that inexpensive. Might help a slumping music economy.
I don't care if people gripe, but it seems that now we're just looking for anything (from the slightest accent creeping in, to Neal's divorce roster ????).

I think it did well because of the publicity it had and also because it was a good product. DSB on Oprah was great, Faithfully- ehhh, but still, their performance and their story (real, fake, spun, or whatever) is selling them product. That's great for Journey.

Sorry, not sure why the anti-Arnel stuff gets to me so much. I guess if the last singer was in there and I was whinin' (as I was) it'd be the same.

Maybe that's why there are 7 songs from Revelation in the DVD, plus one never performed live. Works for me.

My point is that the songs are not the reason Revelation went Platinum. Arnel's vocals are not the reason Revelation went Platinum. If fate had it that Revelation was released in 2000 w/ Augeri and Arrival was released in 2008 w/ Arnel, then Arrival would have gone Platinum. As it stands, Arrival was a good album with poor marketing and Revelation is a good album with excellent marketing...all the stars aligned on time for Revelation to do what it did and I don't see how that can be denied. That doesn't take away from anyone's talent...it's just an observational hypothesis.

Good for Journey, they keep on, keepin' on. This just goes to prove that the world has taken a respectful liking to not only the band, but their lead singer and the story of their lead singer. This is exactly what Journey needs to kick start a push to enter the Rock N Roll H.O.F. If they can keep this up and have a couple more successful albums alongside DVD release's and sold out venues, then this will give them a chance to enter new territory and new heights. The bands presence is felt today and I can't be happier to be a fan. Congrats to all members.

I just came home from Wal-Mart and they had 30 copies of the new DVD.

I really feel that Perry was sincere in wishing the band well and continued success as it must mean that he has now listened to their new new music as he once stated that he has not listened to them since he left. This dvd has made an impact and I'm glad and have always been that Arnel could have an almost impossible dream come true just as it happened for Perry by his own admission.

Filmed March 14 in the Philippenes, the 2-DVD set Live in Manila documents the homecoming concert for Journey singer Arnel Pineda.

The band's 2005 DVD release Live in Houston 1981 - The Escape Tour peaked at No. 9 on the charts, and featured Perry fronting the band at what many believe to be their most acclaimed era.

The new set features two DVDs and more than two hours of classic favorites, as well as selections from the band's 2008 studio release Revelation, their first with Pineda.

Revelation is the eleventh Journey album to have been certified platinum, selling more than one million copies in America. In the fall of 2008, the Journey classic "Don't Stop Believin'" became the most downloaded catalog song in history, approaching 3.0 million in sales according to Nielsen SoundScan.

It wasn't a "stand alone" DVD, Rick. I think they meant the first official released DVD. It (Vegas)was more of a "bonus" in the Revelation Package. That's all I could think of.

Pro-"Arnel" Journey fans think it's doing well because of the band and it's accomplishments, while the other group (whichever lineup you prefer other than this one) thinks it has to do with marketing and cost. Given the listing of the other DVD's that it has topped, I guess a somewhat scientific way to figure it out would to be the cost of the Journey DVD compared to the others. I don't have the time or the inclination to do it, but someone might (I'm off to work - our staff is hit hard by H1N1).

I have a feeling, just by looking at some of the other names on the list (MJ, Madonna, etc) that the Journey DVD is much less expensive. IDK if that's the main reason for it's high sales numbers or not, but it has been a leading argument on here, and now we have something to compare it to. I guess the bottom line is what's more important to all those artists... having a #1 rating on billboard or raking in the dough. Both are positives, to be sure.

As an afterthought... I'm sure the organization is making money on these sales, but I wonder exactly how much of that the actual band members are seeing. I mean, if they are selling the CDs and DVDs at rock-bottom prices, and then you figure in the cost of manufacturing, Wal-Mart's take, and that of Azoff & Co., I wonder if there's really that much to go around. Then again, maybe none of that matters to the band, as long as it gets asses in the seats of the shows. Hmmm...

The Walmart deal allows Journey to retain the lion's share of the money, but all these inexpensive albums do is create further exposure. The bread and butter comes from touring.
