No doubt that the man still has a pleasant, if not beautiful voice. But I truthfully believe that he lacks the stamina and endurance required to carry the band on a tour. He's lost an ample amount of his range (though even his outings in TBF, "I Stand Alone", and the backing vocal incidents show that he's still got some substantial power). The man obviously can't cover the old catalogue, and I doubt he could make massive recoveries if he went back to doing vocal exercises and warm-ups.
There are two schools of thought: "if you use it too much, you lose it" or "you don't use it, you lose it". Perry's done both. He overworked his voice back in his prime, and his long hiatuses and "vacations" haven't helped him.

Davis Lee Roth is in the same boat as are other artists. However, they choose to give the fans what they want. Fuck...a simple "I will never be performing or touring with Journey again" would really end most/all speculation.
bluejeangirl76 wrote:Do the "right thing"? That implies that he's somehow obligated to fix everything and make it all right again. He's not Journey's baby-daddy. It's not his job to show up and support the supreme chaos created by everyone involved after he left.

But he has said that. Several times, and in several ways. Everytime I read a thread like this, I wonder if he's speaking some language that only I can understand. It seemed pretty clear, at least to me, by all his statements that he has no intention to ever rejoining Journey.
"It has been brought to my attention that there is a rumor circulating that I am reuniting with Journey. I want to go on record as saying that I have no such plans whatsoever to do that." -- 2007
"Well [Neal] is and will always be a guitar genius and we were very good together that's for sure. There are many, many old relationships I would like to go back to but after they've run their course- sometimes only love is left...... without the desire to go back. Neal and I could be in that place." -- 2006

I think he orgasms. Maybe not about his fans, but I do think he orgasms. Everyone orgasms, dont they?

True, he's said those things many times, but not talking about Journey. He says that a lot in response to questions about if HE will record or perform again, but the original topic was about him fixing Journey. I can't recall anything where he ever said he thinks about going back to Journey.

You could see his disdain for Neal on the you tube walk of fame video.. Neal said he was writing some new music for Journey, and said indirectly to Steve standing next to him that he could always come sing..Steve said with a pissed off disposition and rolling his eyes..I heard you have a new band.. Meaning, probably Soul SirkUs.. Meaning why would I when you can't even concentrate on Journey... I think the bitterness is more on Perry's part.. I think they but heads too much in the studio..Neal wants to do rock and Steve wants to do ballads, which at this point is easier for him.. JMO

I took that more at Perry getting hit with the big Journey issue again and wishing to change the subject. I think it was more like like disdain at being put on the spot with a camera rolling than it was at Neal. It was a clear dodge of Neal's comment about him being invited to come sing with them, but the reason for said dodge is pretty much anyone's guess. I took his quick subject change as kind of like "Oh fuck, not this again..." but there could be any number of reasons for it, probably none of which were appropriate to mention or discuss with an Entertainment Tonight camera halfway up his nose.
I mean if you were Steve Perry, would you want to show up at a Journey show to sing 3 songs and share the stage with the guy they replaced you with... or the ones who chose to replace you, for that matter. Or whatever other reason there might be. *SHRUG* But he wasn't about to say anything like that, so he changed the subject and asked Neal about his band. Sure it was blatant but probably better than going "Fuck no, you ain't gonna catch my ass at a Journey show. Eat me."![]()

Journey69 wrote:If SP can really still sing and he really wants to do the right thing. They could correct it by doing one last tour,Letting Perry have control ,mainly because he knows what he's capable of..Then they all retire the Journey name..Better yet,Do a new album with Perry, tour a little call it a career.. Call the album,Like Herbie Herbert said in his interview,Freedom ! Neal and the boys get a new singer like JSS, start something new and get that new group rolling..They could have another legacy if they choose..This is the only way I think anyone can see them redeeming themselves... But from what I read somewhere,Neal tried to talk to Perry and he wouldn't have any of it..
STORY_TELLER wrote:Seriously, everyone, either support them or don't, but these strange calls for them to "retire the Journey name" is silly.
Journey69 wrote:Ok,here's one for you..and yes, they are as big as Journey, but at the time they were one of the biggest groups out there..You might have heard of them..They are called Creed.. They broke up kind of in similar fashion to Journey..They went out with the same band members less the lead singer, got a new lead singer(myles Kennedy)who in my opinion is alot better, and started Alterbridge.. Both their albums are stellar and they are getting more popular all the time.. I'm as much of a Journey fan as you guys are..I loved the music with Augeri,The problem is,are they going to make any new music? If they are just going to tour,do everyone a favor, get a new lead singer, new name, diff sound and start a new legacy..That's all I was saying..

Do we really need to see them doing LTS yet again???
