I've just seen them too many times to go see "the dirty dozen" again. If they try something new with the old catalog though...I'm there!
Guess we'll see...

his voice and the singers that have followed successfully, like Arnel, are emulating his sound. One may
argue Arrival, Generations, and Revelation had nothing to do with SP, except the lead singer on each was
there because he sounded so much like him. And while there were some great songs on those discs, can
anyone argue that they captured the same magic?
I've never seen Journey in concert and I feel lucky that I may actually have a chance to experience this
music performed live by this amazing band, but even they have said they are honouring SP's legacy.
So for me, I'm not sure I can say that the music transcends Steve Perry when he is still a part of it
whether he is on the stage or not.

They maybe honoring the Legacy sound but it's not solely Perry's legacy regardless of the relentless hiring of singers with a similar vocal quality. To say so could be construed as being disrespectful to everyone else that was involved in creating the music - I'm not saying that was your intent though just that this Journey wasn't forged by Perry alone.

No it wasn't my intent - each has a unique quality. Neal has a gift with the sound of his guitar, Jonathan creates beautiful
melodies and Steve has an amazing voice and touch with the words. What they create together sounds like Journey
to me. But as the band continues, they continue with singers who are Perry soundalikes, which says to me that he
is a fundamental part of that music that they have not been able to separate.

Not so fast.If they replaced Neal, they'd get someone that could play the licks like Neal, his guitar sound would pattern Neal's and the same goes for Ross, Jon, and to a large extent Deen plays like Smitty, albeit he does ad lib a lot. When they replace someone, of course they're going to try to get someone that can play or sing like the replaced member. They'll try to keep the Journey sound going. Nobody would be calling them a cover band if they replaced any other member, but every other member is part of the sound of Journey.
