One way to promote a new album

Does Journey have the ability or connections required to do something like this.?

U2 have signed up to be the house band on David Letterman's US chat show for an entire week.

The slot is to promote the band's new album, No Line On the Horizon, which is due to be released on 2 March.

It is the first time a musical guest on Letterman has been given a whole week on the long-running show. U2 last appeared on the program in 2001.

Get on Your Boots, U2's first single from the new album, opened the Grammy Awards on Sunday.

Can't wait to see this. I'm looking forward to No Line On The Horizon, too.

And to answer your question - no, Journey couldn't pull this off. The general public does not care as much about Journey as they do about U2, and the music industry doesn't stop for a new Journey album like it does for a new U2 album.

I don't think Journey could pull it off either, which got me wondering if there are any American rock bands that could pull it off?

I think they started working on this Album in 2006. This will be only their third album in over 10 years and they still sell out Stadiums. Quality over quantity and all that I guess. Much like The Perry era with Journey, I haven't really enjoyed anything past their initial 5 albums but I enjoy those immensely.

Bon Jovi is the only one I can think of. Maybe, and a big maybe at that, Aerosmith.

Maybe Journey could start with the Late Late show with Craig Ferguson, in an off-off broadway sort of way, then work their way up to Conan, or something...

They always seem to play at the Egg over in Japan, that's 55k and their last tour in 2007 was pretty nothing but Stadiums overseas. I think they were at HYDE park but I don't know how big the crowd was.

If Journey got one night on Letterman, it would be considered a huge get. I don't even see that happening for the guys. At best, a summer concert series apppearance on one of the three major networks' weekday morning shows might be possible, especially CBS.

U2 is my favorite band, but I have to admit their first new single does suck, and it sounds like a bad rip-off of Vertigo. Maybe it will grow on me. But I have faith their new CD will be great in its entirety. They rarely fail to deliver.

The one thing I'll give U2 is in the right setting they come off as a supergroup. In longevity they've outlasted The Beatles but are nowhere near as creative as Lennon/McCartney but with technology have come up with some great songs.

After Achtung Baby they lost the plot until All You Can't Leave Behind which is a great album.

Here's a 2001 appearance on Letterman, "New York", which is my least liked track on that cd.

I hate U2 but would say they have more stadium anthems than almost any other band currently touring. Journey has the superior songs though without question.

Bono really resembles comedian Robin Williams these days too. :shock:

Anthems? DSB may be their signature song but its not much of an "anthem".

So true. Bono needs to go on a diet and get his hotness back. Steve Perry's voice is so far above Bono's. It's not even close. But I've always loved U2's music.

Bon Jovi or Aerosmith both would be pretty cool and probably would work. As for promoting a new album is concerned, there are lots of ways. Bottom line is public exposure. Running lots of ads on public form like tv, radio, internet is one way. Another way is putting on a free show somewhere totally unplanned. What ever happened to that concept? I recall a few bands doing that on the top of buildings, example is U2. What ever happened to bands setting up a semi truck and cruising around town like Vegas while playing their music? Not saying all those are great ideas, but gets the ball rolling on coming up with new things to do. Getting the "word out" is pretty much the key though in my opinion anyways.
