What's Your Favorite Perry Music

Is it the old stuff with Journey, or his solo ventures?

Personally, I like the old Journey sound. Street Talk was okay, and FTLOSM was just different. For me at least it was.

Well, I must say I didn't really fall in love with Perry's voice until Frontiers. RoR, I thought, was manna from heaven. Pure ear candy (aural sex, if you will). Street Talk I liked quite a bit. FTLOSM...well, it had it's moments...

To tell the truth I love SP with Journey more than the solo music. As it has been said by many, including SP himself, "it was magic". I do like Street Talk & FTLOSM, but they actually had to grow on me...whereas when I heard the Journey songs I was just knocked out on first listen (excluding a very few like 'Back Talk', 'Castles burning'). I pretty much bought all the Journey CDs I could find in '04 and fell in love with all of them...then I found FTLOSM and unfortunately it was like the movies sound effect of the needle scratching across the record...it didn't have the same "love at first listen" and it took about a year before I was able to pull it back out & listen again. Now, I have a few favorite songs on there, but it does have a darker, sadder tone than Journey music & is not as melodic. But, you know I can appreciate that...in FTLOSM there is more of a personal story from SP and it is coming from him...his expression of feelings. Journey songs are universal.

TBF and ROR are what I listen to the most. ROR rocks and TBF is Journey's best musical work by far.

Solo stuff would probably be Street Talk, and then the songs that would have made up Against The Wall. Boy, I think that would have been some album had it been released. I like FTLOSM, but it is way different than all the others. Tammy said it above, it doesn't have that "first time listen" appeal. Having said that, though, it was his first works in 8 years, and so on that basis, it had all the appeal in the world when it came out.

If he puts out new music, doesn't matter what it is, it will be great hype before it is released. And it will be FABULOUS!!!!!!!

Bottom line: There is no replacing the magic of Perry, Schon, Cain. Period!! *SIGH*

I love "Captured", just because of the sheer energy and excitement that comes through. You can tell he loved being up there singing to these people, and you can hear the emotional response to the shift in the crowd in his voice. Plus Gregg Rolie sings with him, and I really love the sound of those two voices together; I actually regret that they didn't do more duets together.

After that, I can't pick an entire album, it has to be individual songs, and the exact selection changes daily. Send Her My Love, Happy To Give, Liberty and Strung Out are always going to be up there, though.

I think his voice was best on Infinity but Frontiers is my favorite whole album.

I love everything just about. But Melody is my dead level favorite. Such a lovely song, and it is so soothing and comforting. After a hard day it is just the ticket. :D

My favorite has always been Street Talk (even more so now that it has the bonus tracks on it..love them!!). I listen to that CD everyday to and from work....it's now an automatic habit when I get in the car. I also listen to The Greatest Hits+5 and Raised on Radio at least once a day, usually while working (I love every song on both of those). Those would definately be my two second choices for whole CD's (yes,I can't choose..so they both get to be 2nd). As for single songs, that's hard because there are sooo many I like. It depends on my mood I guess...If I'm kinda melancholy I will listen to Stay Awhile,I'm Cryin,It's Just The Rain or Something To Hide. If I'm wanting something to get me out of a bad mood,I'll listen to Summer Of Luv,Raised on Radio,If You Need Me,Call Me or Strung Out. I was just listening to Street talk, specifically "Running Alone" (which is one of my favorites from that CD). It has this one line that I really love... 'The trick of the dreamer,is keeping yourself from the blues'. That definately sums up my attraction to Steve's music too...it makes me smile.

I don't really know all the FTLOSM stuff yet (but I'm really liking it so far),it took me forever to track down that CD. I remember going to all the music stores in town once every few weeks hoping to find it..never did,so I special ordered it...THEN my brother found a copy and bought it for me...now I have two of them.

I think I already kinda mentioned this in my intro thread, but whatever-- I'll just go into detail this time. *shrug*

My favorite Steve P. Journey albums are Dream After Dream and Frontiers. Dream After Dream because of that symphonic, progressive nature it has. Reminds me of a mix of Pink Floyd and Peter Gabriel-era Genesis... which are two of some of my favorite bands! And even though Steve doesn't sing too much on it, his performance is great, haunting, and beautiful.

Frontiers is just great-- though I must admit whenever I say "Frontiers", I mean "Frontiers without Back Talk, plus Ask the Lonely and Only the Young". LOVE his tone on that album. It's slightly husky and deeper, but he can still hit the high notes up in there. Raised On Radio-era vocals are also insanely good... too bad the music he sang on wasn't my cup of tea for the most part. (Though I love the song It Could've Been You)

My favorite solo album of his is FTLOSM, though as I said before I think, it does have it's flaws. It suffers from Too Many Ballads Syndrome, mainly. Cut some of the ballads and add Lost Angels and some more rockers and you got yourself an awesome album. Eh. Too bad. Street Talk has its flaws, too, but it also adds the fact that as I said, R&B isn't my thing *for the most part*.

Song-wise, I think my favorite songs he's ever sang on for vocal-quality are Ask the Lonely, It Could've Been You, Winds of March, Little Girl, Still They Ride, Captured By the Moment, Strung Out, What Was, Somewhere There's Hope, Anyway.... and the list goes on.
