Saw Kelly with Foreigner a few weeks ago and he kicked major ass live. He is great on their new CD as well, but I was more impressed by him live than any other replacement singer I've heard. He is an excellent front man that can flat out sing. Had the crowd going from the first song on.
My sister was there and made the comment that Journey should have considered him. My reply was that I wasn't sure how he would sound doing their material. Seems to be a perfect fit for Foreigner though. Very impressive.

I don't think Kelly could have ever been a Journey frontman, it's just not his natural range. Not only because of the catalog but for the fact that Kelly is a guy who seems to have band leader potential. Journey's already got two guys running the band, a third wheel might not be wanted at this point. Foreigner has been bouncing around all over local shows the last year and Hansen is just as much at the helm as Mick is, even more so. If you had never heard of Foreigner before, watching an interview, you would assume that Kelly and Mick are co-leaders of the band. I don't think that would fly in the Journey camp, not to mention no rags to riches backstory that could be milked for 3+ years.
Where Kelly really shines is on stage. The guy reminds me of the Rock Stars of Old, his presence is great and he exudes confidence in front of the crowd. Compared to other replacement singers, he is a pro among amateurs.

there is some amount of truth to this, especially since Hansen has been around for a long time. I figured one of these bands would get him. Foreigner picked the best singer they could have gotten.

Who is this NeIl?
Because it is..or should be.
What's with overbearing over the hill big nosed singers with strange made up medical problems (not talking about Lou Gramm) thinking its about them?

"The one glitch in the night was that guitar player Neal Schon still believes that every song must have a guitar solo. He's an incredible player, but watching him was like peeking through a keyhole; he was so engrossed in his own self-pleasure that, at times, the audience seemed incidental."
Pelata wrote:Tommy Shaw can sing his ass off...I can't see this being that bad unless you're comparing him directly to prime Perry (which "Open Arms" was)...
Comparing Tommy Shaw singing to Neal Schon singing is ridiculous...
