Geocaching

Just wondering if anyone here "Geocaches".

It's a worldwide "treasure hunt" if you will.

Been going on since about 2000.

I got into it in May, and it's pretty cool. It's family friendly and sometimes can be pretty challenging using a GPS device.

taking my nephew tomorrow,
a fun little treasure hunt.
hate the micros.
at least have it big enough for a few trinkets to trade.

Read where several times, an odd looking container, or whatever the geocache is, get's reported to the police by someone not in the hunt. Subsequently, streets and/or businesses are cleared, and bomb squads are called-in to inspect.
Gotta be careful with that stuff...I guess.

I actually love this idea. Cool concept. HOWEVER...how much of a challenge is it when you have exact coordinates to the thing? I know you have almost coordinates, cause it might be in a tree, or buried, or in a cave...etc. Just seems not very treasure huntery(yep!)

Yeah, that's kind what I've been thinking. How about doing something more challenging like a treasure map with fairly nebulous clues or something like that?

I love Geocaching! We've been Geocaching for more than a year. I'm looking forward to going to another Cache Bash (Mega Event) this August. Those are the best and most creative caches that I have ever seen.

Even though you have the coordinates, some of the hides are hard to find, especially the nanos or ones that in an acorn or pine cone

My favorites are the Puzzles & Multi's.

Coordinates don't give you up and down, which can make it really challenging! I love this one:

Usually the cords are within 16 feet. I use the Geocaching App on my iPhone which has everything I need....I can read previous logs from folks which sometimes helps finding it or knowing that it isn't there anymore. I just found my 150th since I started in the first week of June.

I've sound some big ones and some smaller than a penny.

I just placed (hid) my first one the other night and it should go live tomorrow.

Funny you make this post. I've never even heard of geocaching before in my life. My instructor yesterday just filled me in on it and I think it's pretty damn neat. I'll be getting a map soon to see what's in my area. Unique and a different way to explore things.
