Usually the cords are within 16 feet. I use the Geocaching App on my iPhone which has everything I need....I can read previous logs from folks which sometimes helps finding it or knowing that it isn't there anymore. I just found my 150th since I started in the first week of June.
I've sound some big ones and some smaller than a penny.
I just placed (hid) my first one the other night and it should go live tomorrow.
