Triumph
Greatest Hits: Remixed

It was a dying man’s wish; it doesn’t get more real or much heavier than that. Russell Baxter Emmett told his brother Rik that if he wanted to help make his final dream come true, if he wanted to do one last thing for him as a gift before he passed away, it was that he wanted Rik to reform Toronto’s thunderous trio, Triumph. It was an adult version of Make-A-Wish and on behalf of thousands of fans bless you Russ, may you rest in peace with the knowledge that you made many others dreams come true as well. While undoubtedly a tremendously popular, successful and critically well received band from the mid-70’s to the late 80’s with three gold and one platinum album in the USA and three platinum and five gold albums in Canada , many would agree that Triumph could have and should have been even bigger and more successful than they were. This certainly isn’t meant as a negative, far from it, but there’s a short list of very successful bands that were on the cusp of even more acclaim. Artists like UFO, Procol Harum, Blue Oyster Cult, Triumph and others were tremendously successful, yet somehow they deserved even more acclaim and accolades than the many they received. But, so be it. Triumph, no doubt, doesn’t think in these terms, nor should they. What they accomplished was nothing short of remarkable and the gift of music they have given us will be treasured for decades still to come. The most recent goings-on with the band are posted at TriumphMusic.com

If you really want to immerse yourself in the current proceedings make your plans to join us for the next edition of ROCKLINE. When we announced this show, now several months ago, we told you Mike Levine and Gil Moore would be joining us for the show to tell us about their brand new release “Greatest Hits: Remixed”, which features fourteen songs given new life by not only re-mastering these classic songs, but by actually re-mixing them. There’s a huge difference. Accompanying the new CD is an excellent DVD comprising eleven all-time favorites augmented by three Bonus Videos and extra footage based upon the band’s well deserved induction into the Canadian Hall of Fame. After posting the information regarding Gil and Mike’s impending appearance, someone in a well known chat room shared an interesting observation that with only two of the three band members it would actually be “Bi-Umph”, not “Tri-Umph”. While we got a chuckle out of that we also decided to make one last request for the entire band to return to ROCKLINE just like the days of yore when it was commonplace for all three to be on the show. Viola! Another wish fulfilled as now Rik Emmett will participate along with Mike and Gil truly making it “Tri-umph”. More and more wishes continue to come true. We hope that our personal wish comes to fruition as well, namely that one of our all-time favorite bands receive even more highly deserved recognition, that through this appearance even more fans get turned on to the band and that their level of success continue to grow, that the legend unabashedly expands and includes more and more fans learning how many truly great songs these three gentlemen have created for our enjoyment.

If you’re already a fan of the band you’re quite aware how rare it is for all three members to gather for an event. If you’re not already a fan we feel certain you will be after this show. Join us for all three members of Triumph exclusively on the next ROCKLINE!

They announced they were getting back together almost 2 years ago, and they were supposed to tour last year but put if off because of the economy.

Why treat life as a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving in an attractive & well-preserved body? Get there by skidding in sideways, a glass of wine in one hand, chocolate in the other, body totally worn out, screaming WOOHOO! What a ride!

Absolutely LOVE Triumph....Lay it on the Line, and Follow your Heart, and the entire Allied Forces album are my faves. I'll pass on anything after Thunder Seven, except 'Embrujo'..from Sport of Kings. Surveillance was god awful, and Edge of Excess was slightly better.....

Back when women had real tits, Domestic beer was king, and playing in front of 300,000 people was no big deal.

Damn I miss those days. I really think I grew up in the best damn decade that this planet will ever have. Sometimes I wonder "Do our parents feel this way? Our grand parents?" I don't think it's the same for them. They played outside as kids, and sure... they messed around with girls, but it was nothing like growing up through the MTV generation. We basically grew up to a soundtrack. All of the movies we watched had 80's rock or ballads in them. 80's rock was a time for experimental keyboard sounds from bands, screaming guitars solos, and huge melodic songs. A time when British bands (other than the Beatles) stormed the stages and our airwaves.

I would give anything to go back to around 1987 for the rest of my life. Pretty sad I know, but I miss that time and era so bad! I couldn't imagine being without my son or my wife, but I would just love to go back to life back then (at times anyways).

I didn't write that, Spock, I channeled Factfinder and copied and pasted the main text on the site. :P Click on the link to read if you prefer and then the link to the video interview with Emmett. There was also a link on the site to listen to the broadcast interview with the band.

Even though I grew up in the 90s, I still came of age when the music video was a BIG deal. I spent countless hours watching 120 Minutes, MTV, VH-1 etc. I didn't have the awesome selection you guys did back then, but I still experienced the culture of music. Grunge, love or hate it, at least still defined a generation culturally to a large extent. Today, the only thing that defines these younger generations is fucking rap/hip hop... disgusting. That plus the lack of the music video really makes this different even from the 90s.

Aside from that, I've always been drawn to 70s/80s culture... movies, music, history etc... so I was always very well-versed in what being a teenager/young adult in the 80s musta been like. I feel like I sorta do know what it must have been like to grow up in the 80s... Woulda been cool.

There are some GREAT movies that depict that time, and my favorite has always been "Lost Boys". Great freaking movie. I've been in the exact place they filmed the boardwalk scenes. I stood on the same steps that the guy stood on while playing the saxophone. it was in the boardwalk in Santa Cruz. I was there not long after too which made it very cool! I've also been to the beach that they filmed several beach scenes for it. The scene where they bit the guys heads and killed them on the beach was filmed in Half Moon Bay in California. I partied my ASS off on that exact same beach, and it was freaking amazing!!! That movie brings back a lot of memories for me....

The Breakfast club really got it right as far as mid 80s angst for high school students. I was a little before that era but I thought John Hughes nailed it.

It WAS awesome! Pretty much everything Hughes touched was magic. It's not an 80's teen movie, but I LOVED "Planes, Trains And Automobiles" from him. That dude is a genius. Some of my other favorite 80's movies were: St Elmo's Fire, Weekend At Bernie's. Ghost, Nightmare On Elm Street, Hellraiser, Goonies, anything with John Candy, and more than I can remember right now.
