Caldera - Teenage Rock Band from BC

Postby SherriBerry » Wed Nov 02, 2011 5:33 pm

This is a YouTube link to a rock band from Revelstoke, BC called 'Caldera'- they are a group of high school kids and pretty good! It sounds like rock is making a comeback:

Rock is making a comeback? I thought it already did, in the forms of Bigelf and Black Country Communion!

Seriously, rock made a "comeback" when grunge reclaimed the landscape from the pop and hip-hop dreck that was souring everything throughout the '80s. Yeah, I'm not one to speak up for grunge, but that's what happened.

I'm a fan of the '70s fusion band Caldera, so who are these canucks using their name?

 They're a group of teenagers, so they probably haven't heard of the 70s fusion band - I hadn't either and I'm a lot older! I had to Google them and since they weren't around long, their albums didn't sell, and they broke up over 30 years ago, I don't think the name will confuse anyone.

On a different note, I wouldn't say rock made a comeback with grunge, just a temporary and short-lived displacement. Pop came back bigger and worse than ever with the Spice Girls, Britney Spears, and up through Lady Gaga. :( I had to Google Bigelf and Black Country Communion, but I'm almost 40 and more likely to listen to Dan's playlist of Barry Manilow's Greatest Hits than metal.  I think it's a good sign though, that when given a vote, the readers of Rolling Stone showed more music sense than its editors and chose a real rock band like The Sheepdogs to win the cover!

If all you listen to is what's discussed in this forum, then I understand why you would make such a conclusive statement, however ignorant it may be.

I listen to a lot more than that, just not metal! Unfortunately too much of what is out there in music is ProTooled crap. (Hmmm, generational gap anyone? )

What other rock bands (not metal) do you like? I need to add to my playlist!

Bigelf and Black Country Communion aren't metal. Don't you like 'em?

Do you like any Heep? Saga? Rush? Thin Lizzy? BOC?
