You're wrong. I heard "Higher Place" more often then anything from TBF.

STYX only got airplay because the songs were COVER tunes, not original work.

Styx got airplay because they delivered what both their label and radio requested. When the band, the label, and radio work together, songs get played.

You know, I have low expectations for the interviews. I doubt they will talk about promotion because I doubt there will be any...just like for Red 13. The tour is the promotion and the last set list I saw only had TWO Generation songs listed.

What will be interesting is what Neal says about the future of Soul Sirkus...and if they are plainning or writing another Journey album, or if Soul Sirkus is going to be worked on first - again.

How is Journey growing as a band by going out on tour and hardly performing ANYTHING less then 10yrs old? How is that celebrating todays Journey along with the old Journey? They are pigeon holing THEMSELVES by not offering their new music to the fans in concert.

To be completely honest, the guys did buy a ad on PAX TV. Not much, still just sayin..

Like you don't know the answer to that one already?
It was officially announced weeks ago (on BT, on here) that Jeff was stoppin by on off-days during this tour to write with Neal for the next Sirkus album. You knew this, but want to make it seem like you are clairvoyant or have "god like powers" or something.

Maybe u did in ur armpit of the world down in Hogfarm, Iowa.
But everywhere else Arrival got very little play.

Styx got airplay because they delivered what both their label and radio requested. When the band, the label, and radio work together, songs get played.

Umm...last I checked Journey delivered EXACTLY what the label (Sony) requested in the form of the safe and innocuous "Arrival" record, and the album STILL didn't sell jack or get very much radio play.
Get off it already!
STYX got on the charts because it was a covers album. It was an anomalous case and this will be proven next year when their record of all new material fails to chart any higher than Cyclorama.

I haven't been paying much attention lately. The only bit I saw about this was that post to BT to a 'review' where it was mentioned. I hardly ever read BT, and I didn't see it on this forum.

Even with that news....I'd like to know if they are working a new JOURNEY album. Just because they are writing SS doesn't mean they are NOT writing Journey. If they are NOT, that says a lot to me...like someone else says, they don't give a shit about Journey and do give a shit about SS, which is the band I don't give a shit about.

Aren't we forgetting Arrival was injured coming out of the gate with the Napster ordeal...

That was huge. Neal even suggested some Sony son of a bitch leaked it..

I agree with you. However, while I may not be endowed with "god like powers" i still think I can take a pretty good guess at what the band's answer will be. They are not working on a new album because they just released one, however, as individual artists, they are always writing blah blah blah blah.

Point is, it WAS on the radio...and I heard several BBT songs too. I doubt VERY much that this was the only city in the country that played Arrival songs. Most places didn't but I do believe it got SOME airplay.

Umm...last I checked Journey delivered EXACTLY what the label (Sony) requested in the form of the safe and innocuous "Arrival" record, and the album STILL didn't sell jack or get very much radio play.

They sold more then BBT and they DID get on the radio....just not as much as most fans would have liked. Also, Arrival did NOT have the full support of Sony...it was doomed before it was even released because Sony did not care if it had success.

STYX got on the charts because it was a covers album.

When Def Leppard releases theirs and it doesn't chart or get airplay, what will the reason be?

It was an anomalous case and this will be proven next year when their record of all new material fails to chart any higher than Cyclorama.

I'm not sure where Cyclorama charted...But, if the label gets behind it, if Styx performs the songs in concert, if they do a cheap video, if it gets simular exposure as BBT - it will be much better off then Cyclorama or Generations.

I won't need a reason.
It'll chart just like how every other uninspired covers album (Michael McDonald, Rod Stewart, etc) has charted.
Here's a better question:
If it doesn't chart, what will YOUR reason be?
Surely, Leppard will perform the songs in concert, release a video (maybe) and do all the other requesite things needed in order to gurantee success (according to you).
So what will YOUR excuse be when they do all those aforementioned things and still fail?

Two things brought up in this good debate so far. The Cause and Monker, AKA Frazier and Ali both acknowledge that HP got airplay off the beaten path. I heard it in Wilmington, DE. Why are the smaller radio stations able to play these tracks but you can't hear them on an MMR in Philly?

Rock-N-Deano correctly points out that Neal in a throwaway line of his Arrival interview, not just hints at, but flat out says a Sony exec leaked the songs to Npaster. Why, in their incomplete formats in bad audio?

No, I think I called Neal Tyson circa '88 a while back b/c I was appaled when you had him in here wearing Richie Sambora's Rex Harrison hat.
You can be Sonny Liston if you're feeling left out.

That's YOU, but I think you were a fortunate soul then. Most posts during that time showed little to no airplay of Arrival. And where I live, Higher Place was said to have been played but I NEVER heard it. The only place I heard it was the Station's website, and that was an editied version removing Neal's guitar solo.
I heard WYLAW on many stations at many times.

Maybe. But the band and label worked together for Arrival and it went NOWHERE. And from talking ot people at the CR stations here, they will NOT PLAY music that we don't know all the words to. It is the general marketing philosophy of the CR Stations.

Simple, smaller markets are not as likely to be a part of the HUGE corporate shield of radio stations such as Clear Channel. Either Journey gets in bed (all the way) with CC, or they go attack all the small markets.

I don't get what you're saying? Did I not just say that is the only place I have seen it, in that review? I have not seen or read any interview where JSS said it, and I did not read any comments about it here. What do you mean I "directly responded to JSS comments in that review"? I directly responded to JSS reply to that post because I felt it insulted another forum member, was inflamatory, and broke forum rules. I did NOT respond to anything that he may have said that was quoted.

Allow me to enlighten u.
Over on BT u responded in a "Generations" review thread that mentioned the fact that JSS and Neal were writing Sirkus II during this summer's JRNY tour. This fact was mentioned in both the actual Generations review and in JSS's corresponding remarks made to it.
However, even though u were an active participant in that thread, you came here and pretended not to know that JSS and Neal were already doing preliminary work on Sikrus II, claiming, "What will be interesting is what Neal says about the future of Soul Sirkus...and if they are plainning or writing another Journey album, or if Soul Sirkus is going to be worked on first".

You knew the answer to this question already, but posed it anyway, so that the answer would vindicate ur currently harbored anti-lineup opinions and make it seem like you have some sort of insider-like aptitude for what you are talking about.
Wow.
We all stand in awe of ur uncanny psychic abilities, Monker.
Too bad u knew the answer long before u came here and posed the question.

As far as I'm concerned, you have just proven urself to be as disingenuous, manipulative and agenda-driven as the Perry-pod-People. Amscray.
