Schon Interview

Postby Eric » Wed Aug 10, 2005 10:25 pm

So, it sounds like there will be a 4th version of Generations:

1) Free concert CD
2) Japan version
3) Euro version
4) US in stores version

The hodgepodge rush job theories some have were right. Look what he said about rehearsals. I can't believe they had to wait until 3 days before opening night to rehearse such an ambitious setlist. It had to be the SS in Europe thing.

I only hope that when Neal mentions doing some festivals in Europe next year,it includes the UK.How about an AOR festival say at Wembley Arena including Survivor,Foreigner,Reo...are whoever.Having said this if it means travelling to France,Germany etc..then so be it :)

I think he said the rehearsal thing was about Ross being ill, not SS. I was at the Irvine show and they seemed totally ready to me! I just wish they would throw back in some of the Generations songs they cut.

As for Generations being re-recorded, I think that is the perfectionist thing talking. Neal re-did Arrival, he re-did I on U, they did 2 versions of SS, now he'd like to re-do Generations. I guess to his ears things can always be better. If you don't have a label telling you what to do, I guess you can do it until you like it and that probably a great situation for any artist to be in. I'd like to hear an example of that drum thing Neal was talking about with Generations and see if I could even tell the difference. He's got some expert ears.

Good point. I wonder if Joe sixpack and Sally Housewife will be able to hear a difference?

He just wants a reason to go up to Vancouver.. and check out those famous stripclubs..I see Neal working

I thought he said Ross was ill during the rehearsals, not that they postponed them b/c of that. Whatever. Deano said they were really tight by the time they hit Paso Robles and LA said they sounded perfectly good opening night. Wether that was b/c of the amazing setlist or not who knows? Deano, what was your opinion of the entire band's opening night performance again now 2 months later?

They could call the rerelease "Fourth Generation!"

I think a retooled version would be great actually, though it seems a little silly to re-record all the music again. I mean, how much money did they spend at the Record Plant already making the first CD they "give" away at the concert. Reminds me of a band I was in back in college with a bunch of townie guys who were brothers. They literally had thousands of dollars in equipment, PA, lights, and practiced in a huge warehouse. I mean, like a 64 channel mixing board and these huge stacks of mains and all these intelligent lights behind the drum riser and everything. We practiced nights on end, and still these brothers would bicker during every rehearsal about the guitar tone, or the chord change, then they would start telling me, "Sing it like this, you don't sound enough like Bon Scott," or whatever. And they had this big dry erase board where they would write down every song (about 15) they learned and put 1 to 5 stars out beside a song, showing how well they played the songs. This went on for about 8 months, and I realized they would NEVER be happy enough with their practice to even THINK about getting a gig. I left in a hurry, and to my knowledge they never played a show...But it goes to show, that sometimes you just have to say "Okay, we're happy with this, now let's move on to the next thing."

Yea, they should retool the thing exaclty like you said. But not rerecord it entirely. I think with World Play SS did this, added and changed some things, obviosuly Castronovo had to be dubbed over completely but I don't thin they ever said they completely rerecorded the record. Like Jeremy said it would make the time spent at the Plant completely wasteful. And the budget's probably not unlimited. Just add Pride Of The Family adn Never Too late and maybe tweak some stuff you weren't thrilled with (But leave Augeri's knockout vocals alone) and you have a total monster on your hands. When I hear Neal say stuff like that it smacks of the Warfield dvd he said we'd get but never did.

Remember the "suprise mystery project" he tantalized us with, but never revealed what it actually was?

To this day, I still don't know what his "groundbreaking top secret idea" was going to be. I presume it was a DVD/CD in one, but that isn't anything new.

Yep, there's another one. And there's more where those came from. he does it all the time...childlike in his enthusiasm to get this promised stuff out there but shit always gets in his way logistically, fiscally or otherwise.
The one threat he really made good on was to rock Arrival up after he got bad feedback on the first 12 tracks in 2000. He made the proclomation and damn if it didn't happen. But the warfield and "top secret" issues and the others get me to this day as unfulfilled promise. Still love his desire though.

1) I thought they were tight on opening night. Augeri simply didn't have it.. I mean he passed the test, because the crowd sang over him(they were loud). I agree with LAWoman..Irvine was very good.

They sounded no better musically in Paso Robles, but Augeri sure did something about his past problems..He was stellar.

2) The World Play SS cd.. They went in and re-recorded the drums. (anyone tell a difference?). Neal said he went in and "added some guitars."

Yes, the Irvine show was good. However, I think perfection with this band is showing it's head. They want something that pleases them..Like Neal talking about the big drum sound..I think he hears stuff we possibly can't. You would think his ears are shot, playing in front of those amps all the time...guess not.

The Warfield DVD... I was there for the show, and think it was the second best show I have ever seen(HOB WOF being first). I believe Cain was the one who said it was not up to snuff...

I would think Neal would say, "film a show, press it, sell it as DVD." Lord knows it would sell...I wonder if there is still a Perry blockade going on? Or lack of label?

2 points I wanna pound on...Your're right. neal must hear things in music (all those guys) that we could not possiblever pick up on and it must drive him/them isnane.

Neal never said the warf dvd was gonna be a multi-camera angle extravaganza and we were all ready for that as such. Then Vain Cain puts the kibosh down citing "Not enough good footage." Come on, just give the website the 1 camera andgle, do a job of connecting the footage with the soundboard and SELL it to us.
