I figured to ask this board since most of you know more about him, thanks in advance

I recall he had some very candid (and none too complimentary) things to say about "Trial By Fire".
Saying (and I'm paraphrasing here) that he had better songs stashed away in his sock drawer.
Which I think is a little too harsh, Trial By Fire may not be all that great, but it's a step up from ROR and the production is tops.

Yeah, but you gotta remember that he was writing with the guys...so he knows the direction they were working on until Perry rejoined.

Also, I think he said his favorite time in Journey was the time before Escape....and that is what I would expect the sound to be like with Gregg in the band. Basicaly, the Storm with Neal and Jonathan's input.

Well, Greg is STILL touring, and touring the carnival circuit to boot..that isn't exactly "successful." Now Journey is touring, and playing to 10K per night..big difference.
Rock'ndeano wrote:Also, I can't see a GR back in Journey. Wasn't that the rumour? Greg AND Jon?
Rock'ndeano wrote:One last mention. If Greg were back in the band, I feel possibly the music may sound dated, if the Departure structure was used. I like the music very much from DP but, to me, it just is a sound that only works for a certain time period...Wouldn't work now, IMO.

I agree that it seems odd NOW, but back then it could have been true. He didn't tour for quite some time after that...in fact, I would have to say that Gregg did not tour from 1980-1992 with The Storm. That is a pretty good vacation. I still feel that Perry WAS a major reason though. Everything I have read on the subject leads to me to that. But I give Gregg credit for 'stickin' to his story'.

I should read the thread before I post...oh, well.
I agree.
jrnyman28 wrote:Two Fires was like The Storm, without Gregg. So yeah, it is like Escape Journey. But maybe not as "rock".

According to who?
NoMoreTails wrote:Monker stated that the circumstances around TBF caused a rift between Gregg and Journey, understandable so. Yet Neal appeared on a song on Gregg's 2001 album, Roots, so at least the two of them evidently stayed on fairly good terms despite this.
NoMoreTails wrote:Curiously, Gregg missed the Hollywood WOF ceremony but had been at the one in SF the year before. Any chance it was actually known that Perry would be there despite what we've heard from many involved?
NoMoreTails wrote:Would Perry's attendance keep Gregg from wanting to come? I wouldn't expect either answer to be yes, based on what we know.
NoMoreTails wrote:Not likely, but has something else happened between Gregg and Journey between the two events? I was really surprised and disappointed Gregg wasn't there, being such an important part of Journey's history. Surely any dates Gregg had could have been scheduled around that date or rescheduled.

Two Fires is the Storm without Gregg...So, it's Josh Ramos and Kevin. It's a lot more guitar driven then the Storm was. I've always liked this CD...I think it may even be in the car right now. Kevin REALLY sounds good on it. I don't own the second Two Fires.
If Kevin releases another CD, I'll buy the two together...which is what I did with his gospel CD and "Running With the Wind".

I wonder if the "bad taste" is with "Journey", not specifically with Neal. Or maybe he and Neal had worked on that song when working with Abraxas Pool?
